There's a GIF for that
I tend to watch trailers and gameplay videos of games, only up to the point that I've made up my mind about getting them, then I avoid anything else regarding those games until I can play them myself.
I often find that if I consume too much media for a game that I'm excited about, it takes away a lot of the joy of discovering fun and interesting things in the game for myself. It gets really difficult when you're particularly hyped for a certain game, but in my experience it almost always pays off in the end. The media and even the public can be particularly bad at revealing too much sometimes and often spoiling games long before they're released.
I was particularly happy with how I managed to avoid almost anything GTA V related until it eventually released on PC. It really paid off as well; discovering all the things you could do in that game is a huge part of the fun.
