Dark Souls 3

35 hours into the game and I literally just realised you can upgrade the potency of the estus flask. Was walking around with 6 undead bone shards the whole time. Feel like like such a dumbass. :p

Yeah, was tense. Ended with a fraction of health. Palms were sweaty... mom's spaghetti... anyway, he/she is dead and will progress more tonight.

Loving it!

420 Praise it! \[T]/

I'd love to join in some jolly coop but I think our levels might be too far apart now, so the game wouldn't match us up. Apparently matchmaking is determined by a combination of your soul level and your most upgraded weapon (equipped or not).

Having a Password should negate that. They started this with Bloodborne.
If you are looking to play with a friend, please use a password: this will remove the limits to multiplayer and scale the strong party down to the lower one.

Soul memory isn't a thing anymore, and SL doesn't determine a summon range.

I'm currently SL 113 and I get summoned for any fight. DS3 employs downscaling so that the host can summon anyone and the person being summoned gets their stats (weapon stats included) downscaled so as not to carry the host through the zone.

To make sure you can co-op with a friend, put matchmaking on and then both of you set the same password in your Network Settings. This allows you to only see your friend's summon sign and vice versa.

But the "Matchmaking On/Off" setting is for cross region play, being in the same region we shouldn't need to worry about this.

Some things from Fextralife:

  • Match making will be level-based again as well as take into account the upgrade level of a player's weapon. Please see the Summon Range Calculator for details on the exact level ranges.
  • Password Matching (as seen in Bloodborne Online) is a feature and disregards the aforementioned soul level and weapon upgrade level matchmaking in lieu of a normalizing adjustment to phantom attack power.
  • Hosts, friendly phantoms, and hostile phantoms can get an estus use back if another hostile or friendly phantom dies.
  • Some bosses will only allow you to summon a specific amount of phantoms.
  • NG+ characters can be summoned into NG worlds, and vice versa.

Dark Souls 3 uses Soul Level + Upgrade Level to determine multiplayer ranges. If a player has a weapon at +10, they can be matched with players who have +7 or more. If a player has no upgrades, they can be paired with players with up to +2 weapons.

According to this soul level is used. https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/4e6ewa/matchmaking_data_thoroughly_tested/

Also I did day soul level not memory (Soul Memory can die in hell). :)

I was able to be summoned for crystal sage as a random though.

Maybe that person just had a high SM. I stand corrected :)
