The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

Popularity is relative.

I guess so. Some of my most favourite anime have very small but fiercely loyal fanbases. I would speculate that some are just victims of the genre they belong to, but gain a lot of popularity within that particular genre.

I find that shows that are exciting and have easy to follow tropes tend to become popular. Code Geass, GATE, Kill la Kill, Cowboy Bebop and so forth. The more obscure ones like Humanity has declined, Genhisken, Yozakura Quartet seem gain less of a larger fan base.

Although Bebop has a fairly simple plot, it's characters are fairly interesting themselves, which makes it a great starting show as well as a show to pull apart and critique. I personally hold a strong opinion for Shinichirō Watanabe's work. He has only ever made amazing things.

Valid point there, but the great thing is even an anime that initially has a tiny fanbase can amass a large following over time and transcend generations of otaku.

This week's exciting Shipuuden episode filled almost 3 chapters of manga, around chapter ~683 which means there is about 17 chapters and a few pages left. That can equate to roughly 8 episodes, 9 at most. It was what we where all waiting for some action with Naruto and Sasuke but, there was one time problem...

Next week is fillers, again. 458 saw the end of what we all though was fillers for the remainder of the show, but is now painting a much different picture. Will it all end at around 470, or will it progress to the mid 80's?

While I understand the need to fill in on how certain plot elements came to pass and it also enriches the world Masashi Kishimoto has created. It seems like a waste of time. They are so close to the end, why can't they just give us what we want? Closure to something that some of us have grown up with, I have been watching Naruto since around mid 2009 it's been seven years, lets just put this to rest now.

I've been watching Naruto since 2006 (I was 12) "whistling:
So for me it's been 10 years.

Try watching a show for about 16 years, that seems to have no end in sight. As opposed to teasing viewers every week.

*edit*

I finished InuYasha late last night, so now I can finally move onto the 2009 series for it's conclusion, which is very necessary, since the original despite being very good ended so badly.

Have you been watching InuYasha for 16 years? I've never watched it, heard of it though.

Haha no! Been watching One Piece for that Long, It sounds like a very long time but when I go back to watch some episodes it feels like yesterday. It's interesting when you look back at how the animation has changed. I recently finished InuYasha, I started in about February and finished it last night. It's quite good, but the ending kills it somewhat, thankfully in 2009 a 26 episode series was created to finish it off.

I started when I got to high school, which then served as a trigger for my addiction, and I never looked back. So if you where 12 in 2006, that means you where ~5 years old when it aired, in Japan. Anime and specially fan-subbing was a whole different process back then.

Yeah, back when I was five, I watched Pokèmon on SABC 2 and Digimon on M-net. I would cry if I missed an episode of either :D

I actually joked around at the beginning of the year and said that Shippuden will be showing nothing but filler for most of the year to prolong it's impending conclusion. & after some annoyingly numerous filler, I gave in and just read the last chapters of the manga. But I still watch every week. To be honest though, I was kinda disappointed with the direction of the story, it just doesn't do it for me any more.

On the upside, One Piece has been keeping me from crying too much over Naruto. Today's edition of the manga is out :)

Damn, I only watched the original Naruto because of Shippuden back in 2011. Back then I was re-watching most of my childhood favourites like Dragon Ball Z, and all the others that were aired on SABC. I even re-watched Medabots :D and Beyblade.

Hehe, I can see One Piece still being broadcast in 5 years. I want to say 10 but I get the feeling it's nearing it's end and soon, and soon in One Piece terms can easily be quite a number of years. Watching it doesn't feel like it's been airing for that long, I mean Enies Lobby feels like just yesterday, and wasn't it just last week when Chopper was being recruited?

4th of July D.Gray-man Hallow airs, 13 episodes confirmed!

Finding InuYasha: The Final act, to have a lot more action and way more story packed into every episode. Initially I was a little confused as to what was happening, despite it continuing from the conclusion in 2004. Having 26 episodes is probably the reason why everything is advancing so quickly.
