What happened to midnight releases? Since when do we only get games at 6pm on release day?

A few years ago games would release at midnight for all regions, now this seems standard. Same crap with Total War Warhammer earlier this year.

I think he meant digital midnight release...

I'm pretty sure on consoles the games still unlock at midnight. Was that way with both Dark Souls III and Darksiders 2 on PS4.

Don't they mean midnight in the US where valve is located? I've thought it was pretty standard for us to get things at 7pm on the launch day? I thought they meant midnight release as in, they have chosen midnight US time, and everyone will get it at the same time. Instead of Australia getting it 1st and so on.

Nah, it unlocks 10am US time for everyone around the world.

Back in the day games used to unlock at midnight for each individual timezone. And I'm not even talking that long ago, this was the case in the days of Skyrim and the like.

weird i've been using 7pm here as my midnight release for ages now, mostly for the steam sales. not that i really care, not exactly going to die because I have to wait a few hours. Got enough games to carry on with anyway.

Shit, I realised only now I haven't started the download on my Xbox One yet, so I will still need to download the 34 odd GB before I can play. And the bloody pre-load was open and available since Friday already. Just never thought of doing it. So I'll only be able to play tomorrow after work it seems :cry:
 
SHIT!!! In 6 years of being an ADSL user, I've had ad internet outage only once. I've always bragged about how stable my line has been. Until last night. The line just bugged out, with 4GB left on the download for the game. Curses!! Hopefully I can get it fixed today and let the download finish and play some tonight

Yep, it doesn't feel that long ago but when Wings of Liberty came out I was able to pickup my copy at a midnight BT Games launch and install and run the game as soon as I got home. Nowadays everything on Steam is given the same release time. It's disappointing. :(
 
Queried Takealot about my delivery, I've preordered in March, they email me back, go fuck yourself, we said the 26th for delivery.
