4 reasons why gamers should own a console instead of a PC

Worst post ever dudes.. really bad.

Exclusives??? I think PC has both consoles beat on that one. O.o
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more games exclusive to PC. Way more..

And ease of use? Press power button, open steam, select game. Seems the same as a Playstation.
Or do you mean when PC does way more stuff than console, then it's complicated? -_-

4k gaming. Did you take into account what a 4k TV will cost? Or is the idea to plug the 4k consoles directly into the gamer's eyes?
4k gaming is expensive either way around..

Plus you can trade games. For me that's a big plus of console gaming.

I can see that. Day-1 DLC has messed that up a little, and Steam's Family Sharing option has re-opened game sharing on PC, but trading / trading-in has effectively been limited to consoles.

This and cost are the only points where Ryan and I agree. Even if you buy a pre-built gaming PC, it comes with complexity you just don't have to deal with on a console. That's the trade-off for the flexibility PCs provide.

As a person who owns both and plays on both regularly, I actually prefer gaming on a console because I find it more relaxing.

I can hook up my pc to my tv and run Steam in big screen mode and then play that on my couch but even that's not the same. The XBox One is so quiet and convenient.

But pc has its advantages too. More so than a console.

Yet on weekends I relax with the XBox.

The ideal is to have both. Kicking back with a PlayStation on the couch is appealing.

But on the cost factor, isn't it a bit of a double edge sword? (I'm asking out of sheer ignorance, the last console I owned was a PS2)
The setup, which is still expensive. TV + Console, is cheaper than PC, but the games are much more expensive. Especially when with PC, you can 'try before you buy' and not lose tons of cash on over hyped games that end up being bad (Glares at Civ:Beyond Earth)

Unfortunately the games aren't all that more expensive these days. There was an article about it. Plus on a console you can play it and then trade the game for something else or trade it in. However not everyone likes to trade their games.

This is actually a very tricky comparison to do. I tried my hand at one over a year ago: PC vs PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One cost comparison.

Back then, I estimated that PC gaming becomes the cheaper platform in South Africa after buying around 10 games in a generation.

That is working on new release AAA pricing. Things have changed dramatically since then, though (as Ryan and Soli pointed out). It also doesn't take into account sale pricing; or monthly "clubs" like PSN, XBL, Humble, and Origin/EA Access.

It also doesn't take into account game trading and sharing, second-hand purchases, and reselling your games.

Just thinking of all the nigh-unquantifiable factors for such a comparison makes my brain make all kinds of concerning noises.

This is why I'm quite sad that SteamOS never became the full Openelec type Gaming experience substitute of a fresh install with self maintaining stable updates. I always hoped they would bring a minimalist Windows OS with similar function, but that clashes with their Xbog one product plans...

In general MyGaming articles are decent, but this is just downright junk. I can't see any reason to write this other than to stir controversy. Honestly now. It's chock-full of inaccuracies, outright falsehoods and personal opinions being presented as fact.

What’s worse is that while there was a time when PC gaming was the way to go purely because of how much cheaper the games were, PC games have now crept up to the R1,000 mark.

Combine this with decent sales on PSN and Xbox Live and I can no longer in good faith say that PC gaming is cheaper than consoles.

What the goat boobs is this devilry? How do you write this nonsense with a straight face? Some PC games are expensive at release. If you can't wait 3 months for the games to go on sale, that's on you. Steam sales and game bundles still make PC gaming less expensive than consoles. I haven't paid more than R600 for a single game this year and I own and have played most of the AAA releases that came out. I got Deus Ex Mankind Divided for R500 on Steam at release. How much did you pay on PSN? R900 was it?

The upscaled gaming provided by the new consoles offers a cheap buy-in option for anyone looking to make the step up to 4K gaming.

Why would you even want this? Upscaled games played at 4k? That's like drinking watered down beer. Sure, it's still beer, but it's just not the same and deep down you know you're not getting the real thing.

Add to this games that just play better on a controller (like the FIFA games) and it’s suddenly worth having a console around the house.

Yeah. How about dem city builders, strategy games, CRPGs, MMOs? When you buy a console you're greatly limiting your selection of genres as well as games.

Exclusives

Uhmm, awkies. But muh muh muh consoles excloosives! No thank you.

Feel I have to add to this. You can play with any controller (including a wide array or steering wheels/joysticks) with a PC. So scratch that off the list, since PC gives you the OPTION to play with whatever YOU feel is best. can a console do that? no

Exclusives? Pleeeaaaase, not only is the list of PC exclusives pages upon pages longer than on consoles, but it will soon be a completely moot point now that xbox games will be available under the "win 10" platform.
Also, why the hell do console users spout "its cheaper" and then fork out money every month for the ability to connect to the internet...you realise you're paying for a service you've ALREADY paid your ISP for, right? PC's dont have to pay for that...

So mr OP, please tell us again why you are butthurt at having bought an overpriced paperweight that can't even hit 1080p@60fps. and if you tell me 30 fps is "good enough" then you have no right being a gaming journalist, blind people unfortunately can't game....

For me, the main advantage of PC has always been multi-use. I already run a high-end processor with 32Gb RAM so all I need to make my PC a gaming PC is an additional hard drive and a decent graphics card.

I have a PS3 that I got back in the day to play exclusives but not really a fan of the controller (or the console). I'm quite ok with the XBox controller these days though. Played Witcher and Assassin's Creed from my couch with the controller but still don't go near shooters with it. I'll get the PS4 sometime in the future (with eBucks) when enough exclusives have been released that I'm interested in. I'll probably never buy XBox, especially now that they're making the games available for Windows 10.

Other than that, I'd say I disagree with the cost of games part, simply because of Steam sales. I've got a backlog to work through so I rarely buy games new these days.
After last weekend, I do have to agree with the Ease-of-use part. Had to reload my gaming OS because I simply couldn't boot into it and Windows 10 startup repair is useless. Worked 100% the previous weekend and all I did was install the latest Windows 10 updates. Luckily my work OS didn't have the same issues.

It's great but fundamentally flawed unfortunately. As soon as the person you are sharing with starts playing anything on steam while you are running one of their games steam cuts you off.

Steam tells you that they've started playing, and gives you about 2 minutes to close your game. I share my library with my mate from brazil as well as my other mate, its awesome. they've even made some purchases because they were able to try the games and then liked it enough to buy it for themselves. The fact that people were already "selling" sharing copies of doom on steam accounts shows that it isn't likely to change, since its otherwise open to abuse.

correct

the problem is I never get to play The Walking Dead: Season 2 now because he's playing games on steam

But then just get a friend who's nice and awesome (like me) that if i see my mate using my shared library and i don't plan on playing something online (csgo for eg), i just go offline and play. that way we can both play on my account :)
