Some advice please - LGA 1155 mobo

My ASRock LGA 1155 mobo has croaked. It seems difficult to find a new one, so I'm probably left with 2 options:

- by second hand, or
- new mobo and cpu

Any thoughts from all you techies/enthusiasts would be appreciated.

It turns out the problem was related to a conflict between AVG and Adobe's Creative Cloud which kept killing my network connection - so what I thought was hardware related was not....problem solved.

Kinda reminds me of the time I installed iTunes and it kept screwing with my system date/time and network connection. I also thought it was a hardware issue (even changed the battery on my mobo) but once I uninstalled the fruity spyware, all was well again.

So did you turf AVG or Creative Cloud?

Neither, had to add a registry setting and it was all sorted. For some reason the conflict started about 40 cscript processes which just killed my network card.

What was most worrying was AVG's reluctance to admit there was a problem.....one more issue with AVG and I'm binning it. This caused me to totally re-install Windows 10.

Paid for or free version?

Yeah, I normally don't even run anti-virus software, normally just stick to Windows Defender, but that's only because it comes pre installed.

I do, but it's there to catch the obvious and really only checks removable media, temporary folders as well as downloads for anything obviously nasty. What I do recommend is Immunet

I'm convinced, will be cancelling my AVG sub shortly, thank you. What is your 'anti-virus' setup then?

I've just been using Avast's free AV - simple and unintrusive. Used to use Avira which was pretty good too.

Slightly crazy. None of my devices connect directly to the Internet. I run a squid proxy with ClamAV to filter out "bad" crap. My gaming PC runs immunet, but firewall is enabled. My proxy "server" also acts as a DNS, NTP, DHCP and firewall. My router only allows the proxy server and my mikrotik (firewall) to communicate with the Internet. It's complicated and paranoid, but everything works and I've been virus and malware free for years now by doing just that.
