The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

They got some countdown now every week until Naruto's wedding. I am guessing Shippuden will probably end when the Boruto anime starts. At present there are listings of episodes until the 9th of March, so perhaps it may even end earlier?

It's definitely being dragged out, but I guess a lot of people are so invested in the story that they just have to see all the episodes, I'll watch all the ones I'm skipping myself, eventually, probably when the very last one airs. But I'm surprised that not a lot of people are complaining too much about it, I was expecting an uproar. But people seem not to mind. There's been quite a change in the manga line up in recent times, so maybe that has something to do with it.

The real target audience for Naruto is not in the EU or US, it's children between the ages of 5 to around 15 that will watch it in Japan. I think it's longevity has to do with a deal that was most likely struck with Shonen Jump magazine to produce X amount of episodes, if the ratings are good. Additionally, Japan does not care what everyone else thinks, seriously. If it does well in Japan then it is labelled as a success. If it does well in other countries it's a bonus but their target audience is very close to home.

As for the manga, I completed Naruto but never got into Boruto . I feel that Boruto is riding on the coattails of Naruto, but we shall see what the future brings. As of right now, there are dozens of other good shows to watch.

Ah, but how many as long running? or popular. Can't think of a clever way to bring it up, so, Bleach :). Despite still having had a large following around the world the manga still got canned because the Japanese weren't buying.
I still don't have any plans to get on the Boruto bandwagon anytime soon, but I'm secretly hoping it becomes something special.

I've been reading a lot more manga & watching less anime recently, mostly stuff I've always wanted to read but never got around to. So I haven't seen a lot of the new stuff, or even know what's new. News of Ao no Exorcist reached me though. So I'll pick up Boruto when I finish some of the old stuff I'm reading.

Bleach's demise was the accumulation of a number of different things. In essence it was due to it falling from popularity, but there was much more to that than not being in the top 10 surveys.

Being a manga Artist is probably one of the most demanding jobs one could ever work. As a Mangaka you have to constantly meet weekly deadlines, and your work has to stay above a certain readership percentage. You are always in meetings with your editors and you work is rated weekly. If it falls below a specific mark over a period of X weeks, you then have Y amount of weeks to create a conclusion. Then you either start all over again, which can sometimes take months before you can create anything worth publishing. The process then repeats.

There is also the fact that you have around 5 hours of personal time to yourself. A week. The rest of the time is spend drawing and this is despite the fact that you have 3 or more personal assistants that can do in between art, backgrounds, blackouts and everything else. There is also the fact that your editor, will have more say in your content than you because he 'knows' the target audience.

Bleach was also too long, the story is constantly stretched out to great length where it could have already ended. I can only speculate and say that it was the choice of the editors to add more to the story at an attempt to bring ratings up and make it more popular.

Now when we compile all this information together, as well as look at the first few volumes of Bleach vs. the last few you will see some very notable differences in the art style and flow of the manga. There was less detail and more messiness in the action sequences. The storyboards also did not flow as well as they once did.

TL;DR Kubo simply gave up trying as the ratings dropped slowly and he became somewhat disinterested in his work. This is sad because between Kishimoto and Oda, Kubo is the better artist in my opinion.

Also I see the new Gantz:0 is on Netflix in SA

Watched a few pieces of it, the CGI is world class, and it's a step up from the previous Gantz films. There are a couple of web-rips floating around. Otherwise the BD is launching in March I believe.

Just waiting for Your Name to release in the EU in the next couple of weeks. While we are on the topic of films, half of me wants to watch GiTS live action just out of curiosity, the other half is saying I won't enjoy it and will be wasting my money.

I just watched the first 10min or so, looks great but the film grain kinda grates my cheese a bit. I'm going to give gits a run , why do you think you wont enjoy it ?

Basically it looks dumbed down for an audience that won't fully comprehend the themes of the original films story. To cater to the masses it will have to be a good action movie firstly, but with that in mind, the philosophical discussions and themes will be taking a back seat.

So (for me) they are adding in the coolest looking scenes from the anime/manga/films and turning it into an action film. The production team seems okay at best, the writers have nothing serious on their names. So it falls upon how well the it was adapted. Sure they got Avi Arad... wait... He has only worked on super hero films... Call me a pessimist but, I am struggling to see how it is going to succeed. Maybe it will surprise us all, until them I am not holding much hope for it.

How many more to go?

Last I looked at a TVTokyo schedule, it showed one episode for next week called; The final/last mission. Then Boruto is going to air in the first week of April. So maybe one more? I am still waiting for the final chapter of the manga to be animated, seriously it would add so much closure to the series.
