Nintendo Switch

So, the Switch has been out, people have raved about Zelda for long enough, and other games are starting to get closer and closer to become available. I've been reading and watching a bunch of videos and articles about reviews of the console and seeing which games are coming to it, and my excitement is uncontrollable. I really really want a Switch now. I know @BoeTek has one, but is there any other MyGamers that has bought the console yet? What do you think about it? Also, I want to know a bit more about the local SA warranty. I can get a total Nintendo Switch, including Zelda and 1-2 Switch for the total of $630, which is about R6300, about R400 less than Takealot has that bundle listed. The R400 less is a big pull for me, but I worry about potential warranty issues, or region locking and stuff like that. I'm almost sure that I'm gonna pick up a Switch, just need to know if I should get one here now, or wait until I'm back in SA.

From what I understand there is not region locking with the Switch, I think this is account/profile dependant.

I personally am loving my Switch, and am now realising the versatility of it. Considering this is my first mobile gaming platform I'm still getting used to the mentality, not to mention my first Nintendo console. I just wish the games were a little cheaper, and I can't really recommend the platform to just anyone as the price is a bit steep.

I did however take the Switch along to a social gathering braai the other night, and while I was looked at funny (you know the look nerds get), once I showed them the capabilities and the socialness of the system, I had a handful of people sitting around the table while it was in it's kickstand mode and playing 2-player games with the joycons. We were all laughing and shouting and it was great. But I think this is where the pitch of the Switch is, at social gaming. Not in networking of gaming but the face-to-face aspect and getting people to actually physically engage in each others presence. Games like 1-2-Switch may be a very niche game, but it forces "players" to look away from the screen and engage together, and relies on audio cues, this is rare in gaming and it is welcome.

But eh, take from it what you will. This is just my opinion.

I like what I hear. Yeah look seeing as I'm going to be traveling a lot the next few months, it makes sense to invest in a mobile focused console. I've been interested in how the Switch will turn out and I'm glad it's doing good.

So, did you get any other peripherals with the console other than the standard ones?

I would like to get the Pro controller, but not because I feel I have to, simply because it's a quality of life thing. The Joycons when separated do a fantastic job, even when mounted on the controller body (best explanation I can think of). I have played majority of my time in Zelda in it's mobile state and I love it. The fact that I can move around the house and play anywhere, it even comes to work with me.

I only got the Switch, Zelda and a sweet Nintendo carry case which comes with a screen protector.

Cool. Yeah I'd rather pay a bit more for more games and a bigger SD card. I see the storage isn't that big so better to get an additional SD card. Also I'd spend a bit more on a few games as well

Spent around 2 hours with the switch and unfortunately the lack of power is both annoying and pathetic. Nintendo pretty much just copied the Nvidia shield and added 2 controllers. They took old Tegra X1 chips and downclocked them (Heat and Battery life) and then sold it for over R5000 which is just mental. Botw ran ok but there were noticeable frame drops and I'm sorry when your pushing a crappy res like this on a "NEW" console you don't expect framedrops. I am so disappointed

I wanted to buy my girlfriend one of these but I honestly can't support shit like this. The lack of power is a major concern, just like the Wii and WiiU, Nintentdo continue to make piss poor choices. They could have gone for a new Tegra Chip or something from AMD but instead they went the cheapest possible way. 3rd party developers will skip it just like previous Nintendo consoles and we'll get stuck with Mario Kart 264 and the same old rehashed shit.

i will be playing the wii u version of breath of the wild, i can say in advance i will never finish it, got twilight princess and skyward sword and i never managed to finish those ones.

Power isn't everything. The lack of power in the console has never been a problem for me at all. It's a portable console, of course its not going to be more powerful than a PS4 or even close, and that's fine.

While the lack of power may deter some developers from coming to the console, I can already see the indie market clamoring to get their games on it. It makes so much sense. The fact is that a couple more big title Nintendo games will also keep sales of the console ticking over. Which in turn is going to mean it sells numbers that simply cannot be ignored by 3rd party devs.

Nintendo has never aimed for the "hard-core master race gamer" market. That is way too crowded. This is aimed at the majority of people, people considered more casual gamers.

Yeah, I still need to get an SD card for it, but seeing as I got Zelda cartridge I'm not pressured into getting one yet. Though I did see a video on the different loading times for the different mediums and the cartridge is slowest with onboard memory being quickest, but what's 3 seconds eh.

Two hours? Nice one mate. I have spent about 80 hours in Zelda alone. Framedrops happened 7 times in the whole game. I know this because I counted this. Please show me a PS4 or Xbone game that doesnt have stutter every now and then? its the technology we live with at the moment cause everyone thinks everything should run at 60fps. Have you played any of the other games on the system? Cause let me tell you once again, speaking from experience over the last 3 weeks, the console has enough power. Go play with your master race pc and leave the people who know how to have fun alone.

On a side note for the people who actually care about the switch, I am absolutely loving it and I am very excited for the future forward on the console. It feels good to hold, it works like a charm and it is simply a great piece of tech.

Dont know about the warranty side of things, but nothing is region locked. I bought The Binding of Isaac from the USA store and i can play it fine on my SA account.

I can definitely understand your point of view, what I don't understand is why they're charging the same price as an Xbox One S and a PS4 Slim. They are getting those Tegra 1 chips for peanuts and from what I can tell there was little to no RND involved making the console, so costs were kept incredibly low. They could have sold this at around $200 and still made a ton of money but that's not the Nintendo way.

I doubt we'll see any new/notable 3rd party games on the switch. The console just doesn't have the juice to push new games and engines. I know the unreal engine 4 is natively supported by the switch, which is great but there aren't many big devs out there that makes use of UE4. Most of them have there own in house engines.

Indie titles will definitely sell on the switch, it's a whole new customer base for them but I still don't see that as a console seller.

The pricing of games and accessories is also mental.
It literally feels like a cashgrab.

Eh I really don't know why I get excited for Nintendo products anymore. They always disappoint.

Wtf is that response? So this is how you handle a debate.
So I'm not allowed to mention how I feel and how my experience was?

By the way I actually like Breath of the wild a lot, just sad that the switch is a bit lite in the power department.

Fucking pathetic response

Okay so thats as Beo said as well. Cool then. I'm just wondering what the after sales support would be if I but a Switch from EB Games here, and it goes all screwy on my when I'm back in SA, I wonder if someone in SA would still be able to service and assist me. As long as that won't be a problem, I'll buy this damn machine this weekend already!! I REALLY WANT A SWITCH!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, yeah you got me there at the short and curlies. The accessories are really expensive and there is a lot of them to buy. It's the nature of the machine I guess. If Nintendo wants to have a system that is versatile and mobile, it's gonna need a lot of different accessories making it more versatile.

But then again, an iPad is much, much more expensive than a Switch, and it cannot even play BotW. Also, not being a Nintendo employee is difficult stating with certainty the true value of the components. What is very Nintendo is the fact that they will be making a profit off of the machine from day one. There is no under cutting the selling price to gain market share like virtually any other company does. Nintendo does what Nintendo does.

Also, I do believe the inflated gaming prices are due to the cartridges that the games are coming on. These don't come in cheap so the devs hike up prices to compensate for this. While is does suck, luckily the digital versions of the games are still the normal price. Also, hopefully when Nintendo launches their e-shop with all the features they add some value-added services like back-compat for older Nintendo games.

I think time will tell. I do believe in my heart of hearts that Nintendo has a winner on their hands, and it does make a lot of business sense what they are currently doing. I hope the flow of games will continue and grow, and I am completely sold, I WILL BE A SWITCH OWNER!

Knowing you, personally, I know that you would love it. I am sure that even a neutral party like Wyvern can attest to this.
