MW2 view and reviews (PC version only): Post them here.

The views of one of my close friends:

I played last night (had already paid for the game @ R350 a while back) and even though it wasn't as horrible as I had first thought it would be.... It still sucks in many aspects imho.

1. I did lag, quite a few times. I have 4mbps and I get a 18ms ping now in COD4, not my line.
2. The lobby system sucks, big time. last night I randomly tried to find games for almost 25min before finally getting into a ffa. The annoying thing is you can't check all the servers, see they are busy, etc. you are pretty much blind.
3. The "intermission" between maps is really crap, forgot to time it but it takes quite a while, should be shorter imo, if you wanna create classes and don't have enough time, exit and go back later. They need to AT LEAST add some form of lobby chat system.
4. Not a big deal to all but I'm still unhappy about the decreased player limits. 24 was good imo, I even love BF's 48 player maps.

Otherwise I did enjoy some of the maps, had a few dropped games but nothing like what I thought I would. It feels super "Consolely" to me, doesn't feel like 4 or waw at all but I'm sure I'll get used to it...

I'll play it for a while and see, haven't made up my mind just yet but I do know it falls very short of my original MW2 hopes from a few months back, no mods, no console commands and no dedis' make it impossible to live up to my previous hopes.... ever

I like it so far, has a few issues that I hope they resolve, like the lean and fov. Not holding thumbs for dedicated servers though, but if that happens I'll hug maplassie and give him a bum slap.

Played one game where we changed hosts three times, that was a bit of a schlepp. Defs takes longer than 5 seconds to continue again. Also, in TDM, you can't switch teams to balance out if the other team looses players. Had a game 8 vs 2 last night after some of the other guys dropped out.

Funny moment, running around I came up behind a friendly, and I wanted to lean right to look past him and ended up knifing him.

Private matches seems to be working fine so far, as well as spec ops mode. Didn't experience any lag there.

Lastly, regarding your NAT type. Mine is on strict. Stiger posted a guide on the saix forums that should help you change that to good. So for the guys having latency issues, check it out there, hopefully it helps. Going to try it myself tonight.

How is the SP gameplay? Arcade like the previous COD games. I read it's been toned down. Sounds to good to be true?

I'm not sure what effect that has on latency, but the biggest issue associated with NAT types is simply connecting to games. If you have a strict or moderate NAT, it can end up refusing connections in matchmaking or simply never finding any games at all. You always want it set to open. Most routers can be configured to allow this.

While I have not played this game and cannot therefore comment on its merits or lack thereof, I would feel short-changed at getting only 3 or 4 hours of Single Player
gameplay for the price of MW2. Then again, it would serve me right for not doing my homework on this one. Multiplayer, it seems, is where it's at.

I had a NAT issue on my D-link. Went into router settings and added the TCP & UDP ports as recommended by xbl's help site and all was well.

Did anyone else need to update their MW2?

I have installed it but now it wants to update some monster amount...WTF!?

Not willing to shell out so much money for a +- 4 hour single player experience and the frustration of a laggy Multiplayer component. Back to SGS and iGame CoD4 server's for me..

I did Grimy, wasnt too bad tho. I bumped into you on the 'servers' tonight, but that game never happened.

Hows the lag working out for you?

Hey tin, yeah I saw you then couldn't join the game you invited me to.

I ended up joining some other guys on my list and man it was a jol.

I played for about 2 hours I rate, no lag at all. I had to tear myself off my PC to go to bed :D

I am going to post my first had experience for everyone else to read so they have some idea what they are in for.

last night i could even get a game. constantly got the error host migration failed, then boom back to the dang lobby

MW2 Mini Review

Ok, so I got my copy of MW2 yesterday and eagerly rushed home to install it. Installation was a pain in the ass as I already had steam installed it caused some sort of complication. First round it installed, but then tried to download over 500 MB’s of data for both the SP and MP. Confused I uninstalled it, deleted my local files and started again. The second time round it managed to install all the files successfully. After a short update I was able to fire up the MP.

Within seconds of scanning for a game I was connected to a map. I was amazed how quickly it happened. My first map much to my amazement was with a bunch of saffas, had full green bars and zero lag. It was really amazing.

The graphics and gameplay are something else, they have really done an outstanding job. The feel of the game is just amazing. I couldn’t figure out what the fuss was about, until I disconnected, went to get a drink and then returned for some more killing.

I quickly found another game to join, however this time it was a int server. The lag was unbearable. One miserable red bar left me chugging along like a wounded steam train.

After about 30 mins of server hoping and a few choice words I gave up. Frustrated and annoyed I finally realized the absolute mess IW had made of such an amazing game.

But then I remember someone had created a steam group where all saffers can join. So I joined the group, added everyone to my friends list and that’s where things took a turn for the awesomness. All I needed to do was see which friends were online and playing, which can be done from within the game using steam friends list.

All is needed then is to right click on the desired friend and join there game. Whala! I spent the better half of 2 hours shooting people in the face with a smile on face. It was an absolute pleasure to play from every aspect. There was literally no lag and my 2 hours of gameplay left me with no less than the maximum of 3 green bars. Not to mention I am on a 384 line.

In the end I have this conclusion. MW2 really is a fantastic MP experience. The IW matchmaking however will not work for us South Africans unfortunately. You will spend most of your time server hoping looking for a decent latency game.

It really just won’t work for us at all. However using the friends list and joining other people’s games is definitely the way to go. It is so easy and the more people that you add to your list the more chance you have of joining a game.

I had no problem joining games last night, and as I mentioned they were lag free sessions. This games success in SA will be up to the community. If people are willing to join the MW2 group set up, and add friends, I have no doubt they will have many lag free sessions to come.

I still firmly believe the the lack of dedicated servers is unfortunate and I really pray they included it in a future patch.

This does not seem to work for me. Every time I choose 'join game' I get some sort of error in connection. I will try again tonight. Anyone have any idea why I would have this problem?

IWnet sucks? honestly though no clue Tinman, maybe your NAT is correct? their are so many issues still with mp in MW2. if only they can sort it. the game has loads of untapped potential

Worked for me a few times, thats basically how I played, I just joined friends games. My nat said it was Strict so I dunno.

The first proper review of MW2's MultiPlayer in SA, I think now people can make an informed decision on the game, but its as you say, buy the game, join the steam group, and lag free gaming will then be a strong possibility.

i started installing it this morning, seeing as i have never had steam on my pc, it took a long time to install, then started to update and then i lost my 3g connection....*argh*

...so my plan of testing it out for a few minutes before work, well bombed :(

lets hope this day passes quick
