Guitar player' thread

I also just picked up a cheap acoustic and started, never been for a lesson in my life. The first song I learned to play was And the Great Cold Death of the Earth by Agalloch and then I just practiced a lot of random riffs from random metal songs. The most recent songs that I learned to play are Collision by As I Lay Dying and Daughter of the Moon by Insomnium.

I have been playing for about 4 and a half years now and I have an Ibanez RGR321 EX (my baby :D).

My dream guitars are the Jackson Kelly (with the pile of skulls http://www.dv247.com/guitars/jackson-ke3-kelly-electric-guitar-skulls--54505) and the Ibanez XPT700 (http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/country/frame_southafrica.html)

Favourite guitarists are too many to list here but include Michael and Christopher Amott, Petri Lindroos, BB King, Jimmy Hendrix, Chet Atkins, Alexi Laiho, Joe Satriani, etc., etc.

I personally think jimmi is over rated.

I dunno, I think he was pretty awesome. Not the best guitarist in the world, but still pretty good. I love his solo style.

The reason I stared playing guitar was to win back my ex. And then my fuel to play was to show her that I play better than any one she knows. In the end it was dave murray I wanted to be like.

I started playing because I just happened to get a guitar and thought what the heck, let me give it a try. I've been playing non-stop since then (except for the last couple of months). I can't really play a lot of songs from beginning to end (I focus more on writing and playing my own stuff), but I know a few riffs here and there. If I had to choose a guitarist I consider my role model it would be either Michael Amott (from his Carcass days) or Carlo Regadas. I would give anything to be able to play like them.

Too bad about the price tag :( It looks affordable on that link, but with importing costs and everything it would work out something like R18 000 (or that's what the guy at the music shop told me)

Yeah, that's way more than I can afford. I don't even have an amp atm (mine got stolen), I play through my PC.

Any of the guitarists here use Guitar Pro or similar software? I find it to be a most useful resource when writing (and learning) song.

Dude listen to music on that and you can hear every single not being played. Slayer is some scary shit on acid.

Jip, true that. Same thing goes for the green stuff. I used to be a huge stoner, would just smoke and jam the whole day long, but that's a thing of the past now ...

My guitar does not pick up pinched harmonics.

An Ibanez G10? Nuh uh uh, I've been playing on one of those while I've been in the UK (it's the only one of my sister's collection that can be comfortably reversed), and this thing definitely picks up pinch harmonics. I can even play them unplugged. :) You're just not playing them properly, so keep trying. They're tricky as hell to nail, though - my best friend's been trying to get them right for ten years now, and has never managed to pull one. :P

I can do a a diff harmonic. When you tap the 12th fret from the note you played lightly. But I never really find a use for it. Can you play any pantera songs.

I've been trying for about a year now, but to no avail :( (except for the occasional lucky one :p)
