Zaps New Look

loL Azi - I take it you dont like it then;)

As I said in my first post we know that the loading time is an issue at the moment but this should hopefully be resolved this week.Remember that web sites are constantly evolving things and as with the old site when we come across issues we will fix them.

Yes we could have gone the easy route - possibly the sensible route - by just imitating the competition - but we have decided rather to try something new.

Ha,ha Sock - how boring would that be?

LOL, was just a light hearted comment :D

You are continually improving your site which is great, even kalahari changed their look not too long ago, its how things are done on the web, evolve or stay stagnant.

As with business cards, online purchase-stores are not to be confused with advertisements. We're already on your site, no need to further advertise it.

It's not to be considered as imitation when you follow a working model that every other successful store makes use of. When I buy something, above ALL else, it should be hassle free and easy on the eyes.

A dark themed online purchase site also gives me doubts about entering my credit card and personal details. I blame Hollywood for that one.

that is why i said the white backgrounded tumbs and rating pictures are glaring. it's a bit too much contrast.

personally prefer lean, mean and to the point as to bloat ware. the front page of zaps on the initial load is a whooping 3 meg download :eek:

vs
take2 == 65k
Sybaritic == 76k
loot == 145k
kalahari.net == 273k
wantitall == 385k
landmarkpc == 429k
have2have == 478k
incredible connection == 669k
digitalplanet == 680k
btgames == 686k

...just saying. we are living in RSA and bandwidth is expensive.

seriously guys make thumbnails. don't be lazy and use scaling it wastes s***loads of bandwidth and will improve your loading times. the initial page's load is only 378K without images. checking the profiler it shows 1.92 megs of images :eek:

Necuno are you concerned about the cost of the inital load of the site?
How much does 3 megs cost in rands?

what if every page is like 3 megs ? 10 pages browsed == 30 megs ? sure it might seem to you who don't care about wastage like nothing, but the point is you are using scaled down images which i bet is used all over the site where tumbs would have been the decent (not to mention the correct) method. not everyone is just on nice uncapped dsl. you know that we are still only at 4 meg max lines ?

i'm curious what the opinion of the site will be over at the dev corner on myBB where we can get a second or third developer's opinion and not just "hey fuck if it looks great it must be great". nonetheless i'll ask the other senior devs i know at work too ;)

And I do all my online shopping on these two sites. COINCIDENCE?

well products pages is going to be a bitch, because as i feared ALL the images are the real full-sized thing, but just scaled down. expect anything from 400k to 2megs per product listing. now that is awesome.:)

the site is definitely better, but there is still that very annoying pause between each page before it is displayed. Any indication when we will do away with this "loading" on each page ?

The new site just made my browser bomb. :/

Yes, I'm running an ancient version of F.Fox (2.0.0.20)

Moody the picture of the bigdady and lilsister tell the person who cut that out of a picture to use some blur and some smudge on the edges of the picture. Then the picture will merge better with the background. And maybe some gaussian blur to remove some of the noise in the picture.

Thanks C - will do - we were just playing around with it ourselves last night as out designers said that it couldnt be done.
