Who's really going to watch the soccer world cup ?

i also don't like soccer, but i'm planning on going to 1 game atleast...maybe at ellis park, although soccer city would be cool (if i don't have to drive there)...

...and for the luv of buddha, i don't want watch any game with any african side playing

I'm going to watch the 3/4 playoff.

To all those dissing soccer, lols @ you for posting in this thread.

I'm afraid the womans soccer world cup will not be held in SA, just a bunch of dudes unfortunately.

You forget that each country will have its fair share of fans traveling with it to the world cup, hence these women being at the games ;)

I don't think I'll be watching too much of the world cup. I went to CT int. airport yesterday, and I was very impressed with what they had done with the place. I think we really have improved our cities/infrastructure etc. I won't watch, but If I had to support a winning team it would be Spain.

Of course I will watch, and I am most certainly supporting SA, even though I don't have faith that we will make it... ehh - very far.

Otherwise Brazil is a great team to watch, and I'll stick with my roots and watch any Ireland games (if there even made it into the world cup). I have tickets for a couple games, so hopefully I get lucky and they are good games.

There is no use even trying, during mid day you take hours to get from one side of town to the other. I mean even Cape Town in the city center half the traffic lights do not work, how infrastructure is completely inefficient.
Its just going to show more people how pathetic SA is in handling things. They have some good points in there minds but SA as a whole is just going lower and lower, was not for Mandela SA would not even have a chance to host the world cup. Sadly SA is going the way of Zim, might be slowly but its going to get there.

Think I'm going to a couple of games, I think Brazil is one of them (cue happy dance :D)

I'm excited for the potential opportunities SA may have should we host the cup successfully but there is SO much that could go wrong. I think that is more a realistic than pessimistic view. I am genuinely concerned for the tourists and I hope that they have educated themselves of the realities, crime wise, that SA faces on a daily basis

No... it certainly is not going the way of Zim, and neither will it ever get close. But that's off topic.

The point of the sudden road works and havoc we are all dealing with is to cater FOR the world cup. Therefor, the majority of the highway upgrades and other infrastructure work that is happening all over the place will (hopefully, and if all goes as planned) be finished before the world cup starts.

Not true. The City of Cape Town is the highest rated municipality in South Africa. The CBD is clean, well-run and efficient. The demand for AAA office space and billions of Rands of investment in the CBD is proof of this.

10 years ago you wouldn't have sworn it was the same place. The DA and the Cape Town Partnership really have done an amazing job of turning the inner-city around. I honestly can't remember when last I saw a traffic light that wasn't working in the CBD. And considering they announce traffic lights that are out of order on the radio, too, I think you're exaggerating quite substantially ;)

Regardless, the inner-city will be declared a no-car zone during the World Cup. The new BRT, trains (with an upgraded R400m central station), taxis, shuttles, cycling (along new cycle lanes) and walking (along the Fan Mile and new pedestrian bridges) will be the way people will get to and from the stadium.

The test event over the weekend went off without a hitch and it was amazing to see the stadium at full limited capacity of 20 000, when the last soccer match held at Greenpoint Stadium was only able to attract around 1000 people.

My roots too :D

Unfortunately, controversially, they didn't make it in.

Why dont you move somewhere else then?
a) I cant complain cos i live here
b) If we all did what you do and complain, no problem would be solved
c) in SA we get to play all the violent and politically incorrect games 'cos our rating system is pretty lax
....so.....
I wouldnt complain, dude. It just makes you notice everything bad, and nothing that is good! :0

Not nearly as excited about it as the champions league or premiership but will probably catch it on tv :)

Obviously bafana aren't even gonna make it out the group stage so england for me (well, assuming they make it out, who knows)

P.S. LOL how every single thread to do with the world cup has someone whinging about SA. If SA is so bad move to Zim.

There is a world cup happening in this country...oh.....

I will probably watch them on TV if we get coverage :p
