The victims of PC gaming DRM: one soldier's story

You are always very quick to link stats into your arguments. Hmm, and like you mentioned, quite a few people here, (and from what I know in other forums as well) take offense and annoyance to your posting style, perhaps those stats should speak for themselves?

I think it is more the tone of your internet voice, if I can say that. Perhaps you should just try change it up a bit and see what happens. Say the same types of things but in a more controlled way. There are numerous ways to say the same thing and they can achieve varied results. But then again I get the feeling that your posts have little to do with wanting any real discussion on your part, and more to do with you getting off on our responses somehow. To each his own I guess.

Oh and strong opinions are certainly fine, but they can easily lead to a closed mind if one is not careful.

And whats wrong with that? What is the point of having a discussion if you cant backup your statements? Does it scare you that I actually go to the effort to research a topic before I comment on it?

What other forums name them please? Last two years if spent most of my time on a single forum without any issues and only recently started posting here. So were are these stats you speak of?

Like how? Give me an example?

So what do I want then? An explanation would be nice?

tehNihilist + larch + Azimuth == need a game to play.

I am going to take that advice and leave all this where it is. The thread is so derailed at the moment and I am feeling guilty for my role in it, besides I can see this is going nowhere fast regardless. I am sure we will have time to mash words again sooner than later larch. :p

*Runs off to play White Knight Chronicles online*

It's true, actually. Since I finished Bioshock 2, my life has no meaning. Now I prowl the interwebs, looking for fights.

Metro 2033 needs to hurry up.

larch (lärch)
n.
1. Any of several deciduous, coniferous trees of the genus Larix, having needlelike leaves clustered on short shoots and heavy, durable wood.
2. A person with an uncanny ability of being blinded by his own self-righteousness. Completely unaware of his tone when writing. larch becomes defensive when confronted with conflict and uses statistics as a backbone.

Yup that is me a smug moral sense of superiority derived from the fact that I have never pirated games or software in my entire life. Also a proper debate and discussion consists of researching a topic providing sources and links to backup your statements. That forms part of any good debate or discussion. But if reading scares you ill post pretty pictures.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and call B.S. on this one...unless you're one of those guys who've never fapped and watched pr0n either. I'm betting you pay your TV license as well as never exceeding the 60km/h speed limit. Then "I stand corrected and learn something new each day." :)

Your entire argument is based on misinterpreted statistics. While it may make sense to you, your average observant and sentient person will be able to see that your statements are just bullshit. You can of course remain ignorant towards what I just said, but then you would just be proving my point.

I didn't read all of this. Frankly, I couldn't be bothered.

Fundamentally however, I believe it's the duty of of the publisher/dev to make the DRM as unintrusive as possible for their legitimate customers. I don't actually mind DRM, so long as it doesn't waste my time or money. Unfortunately, with the method proposed by Ubisoft, thats not the case. It's a very intrusive method of DRM which will undoubtedly waste my time (should my internet drop, which it will. This is SA...) and my money (bandwidth is expensive). While I have no problem with the internet connectivity requirements for MP gaming, I don't want to have to use my internet connection all the time for an SP game.

There is clearly a need for DRM software with PC games, but the publishers and devs really need to be smart about it. This method from Ubisoft is not smart.

How do you know I never fap? Are you one of those who get off on watching? If you like I can recommend some nice toys lotions and potions as one of my clients is the Adult world group.

Your more and welcome to come do a software audit on my company by law I am required to distribute legal software to my clients. If a client cant afford it then I recommend a open source free ware alternative. Every piece of software I own is registered and paid for, same goes for everything else I own in my personal capacity.

Misinterpreted statistics? The fact that PC as a platform is piracy haven and that piracy is the cause for this heavy DRM? Even your friend tpex posted a nice thread with a link you should read. But then it is 12 pages of misinterpretations.

Not that I really agree with Ubisoft's approach here at all, but I don't think the bandwidth consumption here is anything significant. I'd imagine this works something like Xbox Live, where connection might amount to 1 or 2mb over an entire day. They do appear to be implementing some sort of cloud system for game saves, which is obviously going to add to that, but I don't think it's anything anywhere near the amounts of bandwith used up in multiplayer, or even browsing.
