MWEB's R219 uncapped ADSL and gaming

They had a fibre break on the mweb network. They solved the issue. These things happen, happended once before. At least they fixed it within the day so no real complaints from me. Yeah it was frustrating but as long as it gets fixed fast I am happy.
 
yeah i got no issues with Mwebs service or problem fixing, if it's on their end they are usually quite fast. when telkom is to blame, different story all together

It broke just before I left for work Sunday and Came back Online just after I got back home , so I was pretty Impressed and Happy , Atleast my PS3's PSN downloads continued as Local Access was still online :D
 
Ok, just had a chance to test it myself.

Local download speeds good (400kb/s).
Local latency good, 10-70ms depending on server.
International download speeds good (400kb/s).
International latency bad (400ms ++ to Europe).

It scores well, but its unfortunately not a good account to use for international gaming, which is disappointing. It scores so well on so many fronts compared to the other offerings out at the moment, which are quite frankly not up to scratch. Its still the best value for money offering, but if they can improve international latency to be on par with the Axxess Express+ offering (200ms consistent to Europe), things will definitely be looking up.
 
I see they upgraded some of their infrastructure today according to My Broadband. Good to see them taking measures to prevent network congestion!

But yes Blackhand, the accounts aren't meant for gaming at all, so that's in line with what I expected.
 
I got a free trial for a few weeks or days already can't really remember when i got it. First thing i Gotta say is thank you Mweb for starting the uncapped war. It's starting to look affordable but still a long way to really affordable. The speeds are okay i guess since alot of ppl jumped the boat to test out and taste the big cake. Unfortunately i can say the cake is not big enough for every1, it can be seen that the network is shaped in the morning and heavily. After the network it can be seen that there are a bit improvement and a alot of improvement can be made on the network still.

The mweb rep at mybb has said they are looking at offering something specificly for gaming in the future but yeah the current offering isn't really suited to gaming. But as a general home usage uncapped account its pretty good offering and has from feedback certainly outperformed the afri host and axxess uncapped packages( not talking about the express but the new uncapped offerings).

The 1 concurrent connection restriction is actually there to stop someone giving their account out to a few people and instead of one ADSL line downloading at 4mb, they would have to deal with 5 ADSL lines downloading at 4mb but only getting enough money to cover the cost of one. Setting up a router as a gateway is actually the preferred way to connect a network to the internet as its more secure and easier to manage. If your router connects to the internet, you can effectively switch the firewalls off on all the PCs as they are no longer directly exposed. The outside world can only see the router, not the 10 PCs sitting behind it.

Now I'm confused, I went to sign up at Mweb and they also told me that at anytime I can only have one device connected to the net :(

You can have more than one pc connected. What the one concurrent connection means is you can only one outgoing connection to the net at one time. If you hook up your pc's to one router you can have more than one pc connected at a time but you can't have two routers connected to the internet using the same account at the same time.

I am on mweb 4mbps uncapped and have 3 pc's hooked up to my router.
 
Thanks, glad to hear from someone that is using the uncapped internet from Mweb. I find it weird that the Mweb rep would say the exact opposite.:confused::confused: Anyway, now I can make the jump to uncapped with no worries

Was the rep a sales or technical rep?? If it was sales rep the person probably doesn't understand the way it works entirely.

Correct, only one DEVICE. That device being your router, which connects on behalf of all the computers/consoles in your house and acts as a gateway.
 
I also have Mweb's uncapped service and have had no issues so far. Had to settle for 2mb line though, my line doesn't want to sync at 4mb :(
 
It's pretty much on par with other shaped offerings on the market hey, which has worked fine for me in the past.
