I had a 295 and even that thing ran hot, not that it didnt perform on its good days.

How important is this PhysicX? From what I can gather, only a few titles support this, or am I missing something?

Like any new technology, you won't know what you're missing until you've experienced it. IMHO PhysX is one of the best new technologies on the market and it's a shame that so few titles support it properly. In games that do however support it, like Batman AA, it's absolutely stunning to behold.
I think the one thing that's holding this technology back is because it's owned by a single graphics card maker, Nvidia. If it were a bit more open sourced so that ATI owners could enjoy this as well I think developers wouldn't hesitate for a second to implement it in their games.
Remember, developers will never incorporate a technology that could possible split their demographic, where one half enjoys it a lot, and the other half simply wont buy it. It hurts the developers wallets. Games that DO split their demographics are all aligned with a single graphics manufactures anyways, such as "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" campaign run by Nvidia. Developers on that side of the fence get paid by Nvidia to make up for the lost ATI customers which they're not reaching. Well, that's how I think it works anyways.
LOL...it's a bit far fetched to call them unreliable, don't you think? I've been using ATI and Nvidia throughout the years and I can honestly say I cannot fault either on "reliability". Personally, if Nvidia ever had to go "bust" it would be a sad day and a huge loss to gamers. Then again, I did just buy a R7000 Stereoscopic 3D system relying 100% on Nvidia...so you can't blame me for hoping that they'll stick around. lol
5 out of 7 of my Nvidia cards failed, then when I brought this up at a LAN, 3 other people agreed with how unreliable Nvidia is and subsequently the low fail rate of ATI cards, so no, I don't think
Not to sound snobby, but I've seen what people at LAN's do with their rigs and I have to say that I think 80% of the fault was probably with the person behind the keyboard. The fact that you've had so many issues with your cards also makes me think that there may have been something funky on your side. Of course, this is only my own opinion and what I think...much like what you "think" about Nvidia.
At the end of the day, any person why just sticks to one brand and keeps dissing the competition is only screwing himself. Another reason why being a fanboy is not worth it.

So i am getting an GTX480 as a replacement card, its due in the next 4 weeks or so according to the company replacing it. The pricing on the card isnt that bad, i think its gna retail around R6K which means if you buying direct you can get it for +/-R5K. My replacement value was at R5500. So i landed up with about R2000 change from my previous GTX295. So i got a bit of credit to spend.
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but ALL of the GTX 480's on the market are reference boards. No partner (such as Asus) are making any modifications and all of them stick to the specifications given to them by Nvidia. So whether you buy an ASUS or a Gigabyte brand GTX 480, you're getting the EXACT same product. As long as that's the case, Asus is charging you for the name. YES, Asus generally is a better brand, but it's due to their modifications they make to certain products. In this case, there are NO modifications. So they're not better than any other GTX 480.

no news is bad news when it come to this card since it so hard to get hold of anyway. Refernce board is okay with me it shoulkd be better than the 295 i had. So no complaints by me. How ever Asus is sending there tweak it software out with there cards not like other manufacturers at the moment. But i will definitely let you guys know how it goes when i do get it. Now just waiting for AMD Phenom x6 1095T to hit our shores then i will be set.
