Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Headset

I'll go fiddle around with mine tonight, If I remember correctly, your bass has to be up all the way, along with your centre on the inline volume control centre thing, and your volume has to be a little loud.

Other settings to keep in mind:

Even with 'bass redirection' in the creative console turned on, if you have a 5.1 sound system or these headphones, the subwoofer will begin operating in an exclusive LFE mode (that is to say, if you are watching a movie that has an exclusive LFE channel in its soundtrack, then the subwoofer will take over providing audio for that), assuming the following:

For Windows Vista/7, go to control panel -> sound -> right click your active output device -> configure speakers -> choose the appropriate channel configuration -> choose the appropriate connected speakers (any disabled speakers will send their audio to the remaining selected speakers using the appropriate matrix for mixing) -> on this next page, 'full-range' must be turned OFF for all speakers.

If your settings has that turned ON, even with bass redirection in the Creative Console turned on, and/or bass management set to be turned up, the sound may never get sent to what amounts to the 'subwoofer' channel in your headphones or 5.1 speaker system, unless it's a dedicated LFE channel.

Hope this helps.

Is anyone using these with onboard sound by any chance?
Im wanting a set but will only look at upgrading the soundcard later.

Using onboard with P6T at the moment and it's going good, haven't used a soundcard yet so I wouldn't know though.

I turned Bass Management off in Realtek Audio Manager and it seems to be working. It's doesn't vibrate as much as my Cyber Snipa though.

Hey guys. I'm new to the forums, and have read this thread with great interest.

I just placed my order for a set of Roccat Kave, and I am very excited. I was very torn between these and the G35 (which I have tried briefly). The quality of the G35 was excellent, but I wasn't sold on the 3D positioning. With only a single 40mm driver in each ear, I cannot see how they can really do a better job than my current stereo cans with "Dolby Headphone" enabled in my audio settings.

Logic tells my brain that Roccat's approach is the way to go, so I am really hoping that they live up to my expecations. I am going to be using these almost exclusively for Modern Warfare 2 gaming.

Would be interested to hear some feedback regarding MW2 specifically, and whether you can genuinely pinpoint sounds in front and behind you. eg. footsteps of someone creeping up behind you.

I've got the G35's and am not sorry, but the Roccats are also awesome. I really dont think you'd be unhappy with either. What sold me on the G35 was the USB. Much easier to use than having to unplug my 5.1 speakers each time I wanna use headphones. Mate of mine has the Roccats and loves them and i tried them briefly and are also very good.

Thanks for the input. I am glad to hear from someone with experience with both, that they are at least comparable in quality. As I said, I was certainly impressed with the fidelity of the G35 I tried, and I'd be happy if the Kave's were anything like them.

The USB thing is a biggie, you are right. I definitely considered that too. It's a ballache to change connectors at the back of the PC all the time, but the truth is, I seldom use my desktop speakers these days anyway.

I'll be sure to give a small review on my thoughts re. the Kave when I receive my set, with an emphasis on 3D positioning. That's one thing I've been slightly annoyed by regarding "professional" reviews for BOTH these headsets. Reviewers seem to comment almost exclusively on the quality and range of sound, and neglect to comment on the very thing that these headsets were designed for. Surround sound in games.

Whew, crisis averted, thank you DenSweeP! Prophecy adjusted their price. Apparently there was a price reduction at the suppler that they were not aware of... "Apparently". :P

Either way, you saved me R100, thanks.

To be fair, they hadn't actually placed the order yet. They were awaiting feedback regarding stock levels first, hence the reason I hadn't paid yet. Guess I'll never know.
