Research findings show ADHD strongly linked to gaming

I don't have that! What a load of bull. I have been gaming all my life:mad:

If you play video games for more than four hours a day you have way bigger problems than ADHD.

The publishers / developers know this, and they are making games aimed at this "fact". Maybe this is why we are seeing SO many action games?

Sorry what I got distracted? Anyone playing video games for 4 hours or more everyday has an addiction problem not an attention one.

Well, bear in mind that its 4 hours of combined TV and game time, so its not thaaaaaat far-fetched. Still, I am well under this myself.

So if a child likes watching a lot of science programs like Mythbusters and other National Geographic documentaries for example, does that make watching television a bad thing? How is that different that sitting in class the whole day then?

At the end of the day I think they're definitely trying to bring this back to the actual "content" that kids are occupying their days with.

But, as a hopeful parent one day, I will make sure that my kids experience everything in moderation. TV and Games will definitely be a part of their lives (with or without my help) but it's up to me as a parent to ensure that the time they spent on it is shared and split in a healthy manner.

It's all about the parents.

Yeah Neo brings up a good point. Would the content involved in gaming or TV viewing make a difference? Certain games / TV Shows are absolutely more inclined to create this phenomena than others. Some may be thoughtful, while others may be cotton-candy for the brain. I guess it is obvious when you think about it. They should not always brand something as always being equal.

Hmmm I don't know, these studies are a dime a dozen and they range from video games being great for X,Y and Z to them being worse than drug addiction. Video games are one of the most rapidly evolving entertainment mediums out there and so they'll catch flak just like rock and movies did.

I go to work, take the 5 minute walk back to my place make food and game, watch series/movies, sort out some warhammer(or other geek hobby I have many) or read. Gaming takes up most of that time and easily I can see it being 3-4 hours a day. Weekends can be marathon sessions if I'm not out with friends.

I'm fine and don't have ADHD, I've been gaming since I was 6.

Sorry, what was that? I got bored and dozed off!

I can see that this article has some merit, but I suspect this might be aimed more at younger kids, whose brains are still developing and are thus susceptible to this. And even then, I suspect that the results would also differ on many children.

Besides, young kids shouldn't be allowed to spend much time in front of a PC/console/TV in the week in any case. They go to school where they develop their brains, after school they do sport or extra mural activities and develop their bodies. They go home and do homework and then play with mates outside. Then bath, dinner and spend time with dad/mom and then bed. Weekends they can indulge in the electronic side of things.

I think it applies mostly to viewing which comprises of quick cuts between scenes, bright colors, and other eye catching imagery. It makes sense; the brain becomes conditioned to processing these high paced, exciting images, which in turn makes it harder for it to focus on comparatively bland scenes, ie, class.

So no, I don't think watching William Smith going over algebra will have a negative effect. Of course, like eveyrthing in life, only the good stuff really messes us up xD

Can't say I have ADHD, and I've done a LOT of gaming throughout the course of my life. Go me :D Strength.

Well, put a 7 year old in front of a screen for more than 4 hours a day and something is bound to go wrong. Same thing applies if you feed chocolate or McDonald's to a 7 year old 4 times a day. Everything can be bad for you if it's done excessively, that's why people need to learn how to live balanced lifestyles and at least know what is good and what is not good for you.

Lol, and here I was thinking that gaming helped me to do better at academics because of the goal-driven nature it inspired within me. Certainly not ADHD though!

I definitely think it affected me, I once played KOTOR2 for 32hrs straight and since then I just beca-

What I gathered from this article is that the majority of the people in the study found studying and class to be shit boring in comparison to playing games, I tend to agree.
