Aion - General Discussion

@shadowfox, What kinda frames are you getting in fortress sieges now after the patch?

Not entirely sure, because I never check - in the beginning I used to lag out a lot, but that got a little better as time went on, to the point where I could actually play through a fortress raid - but I drop my graphics settings to absolute minimum before I go near a fort.

It's stuttery, but it's playable - and I can't say that I notice much difference between now and before the patch - I don't think this patch was really intended to adress performance issues.

apparently they nerfed rifting...

I'm hazy on the details but I'll let you guys know what I see and hear - I'm busy updating now. Long story short, game mechanics are the same, so the grind won't be going anywhere. They've added solo instances (first one at level 18 - 22), which are funnish - and the first one provides you with an alternative way to finish off a few of the trickier quests in Verteron.

With regards to twinking --- yes ... the world is still reverberating with howls of rage from those poor bastards who had nothing better to do than make other people's lives miserable (mine included, since I never approved of rifting myself). I felt a brief flash of sympathy, but it disappeared before I could start my stop-watch to time its duration.

Rumours are that rifters suffer a nerf to their attack and damage when in enemy territory ... no idea whether this was a bug or not - I guess I'll hear when I start playing. What I do know, is that logging out, results in your character being transported back to its last bound location. This is great, because it stops twinks from force-logging when they see the proverbial crap about to hit the fan and all over them. They can't log back in later when the coast is clear.

Rifters were a major pain to people who prefer PvE - which is probably a little over half the player base, because they effectively locked down areas you needed to quest in. Unless you had a ton of kinah lying around to buy yourself some seriously sweet gear, you had zero chance unless you had a level 40+ babysitting you and making all the monsters go away. Twinks were, as a rule, very well geared (either full deava sets with max enchant, or level 30 AP gear), which put them leagues above your average geared char who was just trying to make his way through the game. Here I can include myself, because I got killed 5 times in the space of 40 minutes by the same guy right where I needed to kill my mobs - meaning I effectively needed to find something else to do until he got bored and went somewhere else.

And because they were so well geared, they got easy AP off easy kills, which led to even better gear, and even easier kills. Which resulted in me leaving my main in the area so I could chase a twink away whenever he got close to one of my alts.

So if they nerfed rifting - so what? Twinks can go to the abyss - where PvP is expected. They can also now go to Balaurea, where - if they do indeed exist - nerfs don't apply.

tx shadowfox

but wtf is a rifter/rift surfer ? :)

Rifters/Rift surfers are just different terms to describe twinks.

One of the main PvP areas is the Abyss, which is accessible to both races relatively easily - and your main PvE areas are of course seperate for the Asmodians and Elyos, which, theoretically, are supposed to give the guys who prefer PvE a place to play around in.

However, Aion introduced rifts between the homelands of the opposing factions - and the rift surfers/rifters are basically those guys who specialise in popping through those rifts and making people's life miserable.

i see... same old f***s coming around to "no lube" you :D

Yes ... but apparently now twinks who haven't been keeping up to date with the latest news are in for a very nasty suprise and there's going to be some return rap ... errr ... surprises waiting.

I'm not sure how the system has been implemented yet - some players are suggesting nerfs of up to 80%, while others are saying that it's not a blanket nerf, but somehow dynamically applied, so in some areas the nerf is less tight, and in others more restrictive. I don't even know if that is possible. As a side note I need to mention that there were very few reports of incursions in the newbie areas last night - actually none I saw.

I'm having a hard time confirming anything - nothing about it has been mentioned in the patch notes, and speculation is all over the place on the forums. NCWest's CMs are, as usual, not saying anything concrete.

Bought the standalone update for R50, so I will check it out sooner than later.

Never got far so I have no idea what to expect. However it seems my class of choice - SM, are gimped...

SMs - one of the classes I most hate running into ... unless I'm on my SM myself. They are hands down one of the most dangerous classes in the game unless you can catch them unawares. If you don't - you are screwed.

I found something quite interesting the other day when I went onto xfire's site, Aion's sitting on the 4th position of most played games :O I mean that's like, wow

Hey there everyone im not sure if this is the correct thread because im brand new hehe, i was looking at Aion and thought the game looked amazing but i wanted to try it, and of course there's no trail before buying it. I was wondering if someone could send me one of those trail codes would be very much appreciated thanks. either send it as a PM or to [email protected]. Thanks allot :)

Yeah ... it's still paid subscription.

I've heard some rumours that it may (big emphasis on may) be going F2P - and given the direction activity in the game seems to be going it might be worth looking into - but the content devs seem to be putting in a lot of effort these days, and from personal experience I can say their support staff is pretty top-notch - so I'm not paying the rumours a lot of mind.

My personal suggestion to them would be to consider dropping the price of subs by 10% or even 20% - and at the very least extending the trial period of the game - the current trial they give is much too short and limited to allow possible new players to make an educated decision.

Wonder how many people are still playing Aion? I suspect me and _Caboose_ may be the last couple left here on the forum :D

Anyways - some news:

The 2.5 content update hits the PTS on the 12th of May. As far as I know it's slated to move over to the live servers one week later. The 2.5 update features the super-duper graphics update (available as an option if you happen to be using one of the Pentagon's supercomputers as a graphics card).

No major content updates coming in this patch - but some of the highlights worth mentioning are:

* New instances
* Some new skills
* Some new items and item enhancements

Full notes taken from the Korean PTS are available here

On a side note the patch notes for 2.6 are also available now

I was thinking back to this game over the weekend when I saw the expansion at BT games. My highest toon only got to about lvl21 but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Traveling and dying just became too much of a drag for me though. :/
