Scopes in FPSs

Tell if you think I'm wrong.. But when it comes to FPSs shouldn't it be that when you zoom in, using the scope, only the area within the scope is zoomed, and the outer areas of the scope are normal eye-view (So-to-speak) distance?

The only game I've actually seen this done properly is Splinter Cell: Conviction.
It actually only really came to me when I played SC, and realized that that's how a view through a scope is supposed to look like.

My personal opinion anyway..:)

I am still not seeing ur point? Are you trying to say game arn't like real life?

What he means is in normal or the average FPS's everything is blacked out when you scope like cod4 for example

Whereas splinter cell and some other games use something like the Delta Force Land warrior pic below

Yeah except when looking down a scope you cant see what going on around you as opening the unoccupied eye would result in not seeing properly, the human eye cant multi-focus. Which is why most game either blurr it or black it out.

I like it how it is in BC2, you use the scope when someone is close and they run you're screwed cause you can't really see that much accept the area you're zoomed into.

Probably in the past something like that would take up quite a bit of system resourses, but today it's more about gameplay balance than realism, thats why you don't get something like that so often. It's meant so that using the scope isn't as easy as using the iron sights at close range.

But have you evel looked through a scope in real life? You can look around with a very wide field of view around the scope and still get a pinpoint shot at long range. In reality a scope doesn't really make short-mid range aiming any more difficult. Mainly because if you were to put your eye right up against the scope and have everything around you blacked out, you'd get a black eye.
