The Mods Thread

There's some great total conversion mods for Zero hour.

I've mentioned Tiberian Dawn Redux in this thread. Also there's Cold War Crises and Blitzkrieg 2

I'll chip in on this one.

Medieval 2 Total War
I highly recommend Stainless Steel 6.4. It requires Stainless Steel 6.3. Just follow the instructions in the OP in that thread. It's the most polished Total War mod I've ever played and the community over at the TWC just blows my mind. (total download size is 2.5GB)

(Other mods worth checking out if you want something "easier" are Lands to Conquer or fantasy mods like The Third Age which is set in Middle Earth).

Rome Total War
I prefer Rome Total Realism for this. Just google whatever the latest version is. I haven't played it in a while. Europa Barbarorum is also great but is less fun.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
The absolute best mod for this, as far as gameplay is concerned, is Redux.

It only works with game version 1.0004. It was not made by the same guy who made the popular(?) redux mod for Call of Pripyat, instead it was made by a team of pretty cool dudes who became legends over at the GSC forums. It's strictly a gameplay mod. No "pretty" graphics or new mutants. I've tried many mods for Shadow of Chernobyl and they all suck after playing this one. I still haven't played a good mod for Call of Pripyat, though I think it would take something phenomenal to save that game.

A brave Russian mod team has challenged themselves to port the whole of GSC’s survival horror, STALKER, into Crysis’ more advanced engine. The project’s called Cryzone – Sector 23, and is far along enough for the team to have released a video of the mod in action. You’ll find the video embedded below.

The mod is the work of a team called World of Stalker. It’s still a work in progress, but famous elements from the STALKER series are already in there, including the bleak landscapes, anomalies, and groups of terse Russian men sitting around campfires.

The video shows off some of the destructability and improved physics that comes with the upgrade to Cryengine 2. The mod plans to add some new features to the game, including a Far Cry 2 style healing system, in which your character must fix wounds by injecting themselves, or removing bullets from wounds. For more information on the mod, check out the Sector 23 page on the AP forums. It’s a staggering undertaking, but judging from the video below, the results could be pretty spectacular.

There should be a drive to mod many quality games with cryengine 2

Dissolution is a science fiction, single-player mod for Half-Life 2 that mixes adventure and action game-play. Set in the year 2089, in a universe dominated by a mega corporate entity, Xterrier, the player awakes in a hidden lab to the voice of the mysterious Wilson. Guided by Wilson, the player must make their way through the ravaged Xterrier 581c colony, making use of any and all resources they can get their hands on in order to survive, all the while attempting to piece together the events leading to the colony's collapse and their own identity.
