RIFT : Planes of Telara

Defiant vs Guardians. You can roll both on same server which is pretty cool.
I wouldn't worry about just pve. The rift raids will keep you busy enough to take breaks in between questing.
Then there are the instanced raids to do. And then the pvp warfronts which you can go into anytime / anywhere which remind me of warhammer.

Also the lower level areas seems to be divided unless I am blind. Seen no Defiant running around, but I am certain the zones will mix later.

Right now I have got to say despite the crazy similarities to WoW, Rift is good fun. I think the Rifts keep things interesting, specifically the crazy invasions. But time will tell how it all pans out, but so far so good.

Is rift worth selling my WoW account???? Spent alot of time in Azeroth and tbh Blizzard is failing 4.1 looks like bs, cata 4,06 was bs...

Some Questions :

1.Average latency in ms >>>
2.Graphics requirements >>>
3.General feel of the game >>>

1. About 340ms my side, I play on a wireless radio connection
2. I am using a 2.5 Ghz Quad with 4 gig memory and a ATI 5700, runs smooth on max with supersampling off.
3. http://www.phforums.co.za/f37/2011-mmo-releases-start-rift-61301/ for a 23 page thread on the game from South Africans, as well as this thread. The last 3 pages should give you a good idea with screenshots and the works from us playing the game.

I have seen a couple of Defiants in Silverwood killing our NPCs.

Yeah, I got a PVP kill achievement in the middle of a Rift the other day, I suspect there was a Defiant trying to gank anyone still flagged after a warfront. This is on a PVE server

Its never worth selling your WoW account for a brand new MMO. That's not saying Rift is bad, but you need to give it time to see if it can hold your attention. After 30-90 days you can tell if an MMO is going to make it or not (quality/content/balance/gameplay/support), then you can decide if its worth selling your WoW account.

Basically, the best advice is, wait and see. It could be the next big thing, or the next Warhammer.

I dunno...

I've been watching this game for a while now.
Since announce actually...

I am certainly VERY tired with WoW, after having spent the greater part of the last 7 years there. That is the problem.
WoW has run its course for me.

Step to stage! Rift!
Oh, its WoW with better graphics. :/

Now, if graphics was the only reason I left WoW, then one has to wonder if the game was EVER good at all!
Answer is: WoW has always been good. At least, better rounded and more accessible than any others.
Fact is: WoW is STILL good. But sadly, my marriage with WoW needs to end. I've just "fallen out of love" with her after 7 years.

Now, if I'm gonna quit WoW, it sure as hell isn't gonna be for a game that is EXACTLY like WoW in every way + better piktchas...

I need fresh.
REALLY fresh.
I think maybe SW:TOR might be the one. Depends how they make their system choices.
FFXIV was gonna be "The One"... but they botched badly. They might recover from the massive cockup, but I've stepped back until it is entirely fixed.
GuildWars2... meh. Pretty, but not much else...

I guess I'm slightly screwed for NEW AND FRESH choices right now.

<mmo whine>

seems you need a break not a new game. i fail to see how some fail and say rift is wow with different graphics, that means to me that they assumed by error. trust me it's nothing like wow, there will be some things that seem familiar as you do with all programs. you going to give the users a big shit if you all of a sudden just change everything 100% as with what they are used to.

nothing stops you from writing a mmo that's totally different, however you might find it to be a failure as with the mentioned facts that users don't feel at ease when their known grounds are suddenly changed upside down.

it's even more stupid if not idiotic to compare something that's been running since 2004 with something that just came out. how many oses do we have to day apart from MS/Linux ? why do you think again are linux adopting the windows feel ? familiarity ? ease ? and finally why do we not have more os choices ? maybe because linux and windows has been running so long it's going to take a second coming for another company to bring it out.

what you need is a break, play something else then make a decent observation imho. else we can just stop playing games period. because shooter A aims like Shooter B, rpg A quests like rpg B, rts A opens like rts B, indie A puzzles like indie and so on.

i've been mmo-ing since UO and believe me i've played the full range and with rift/gw2 finally player content and dynamic content are being rolled out as what we've known.

my only gripe is easification, yes now even the n00bs, the dumb, the idiot, the ZOMG SHINY wants needs to be cool and play the game without actually doing something that is really an achievement. then again if the game is too "grown up" or present too many real challenges to 12year old zergs of wow and alike will not like or play. problematic, but what else. maybe find a balance or add hardcore servers for people like me that really want to be challenged without getting it handed on a platter, then shouted to the server and get an erection at that so called achievement.

I must agree with Prophet, although I have been playing WoW for a few years this is so much more intense. If there is a free trial at some stage then try it dude, its really engrossing.

I just created a Defiant character and enjoying sooooooo much more than the Guardian side. Defiant == Horde and always FOR THE HORDE :P

There is one thing Rift cannot break though, my connection to my friends in EVE.

/logs into EVE :)

though each time i hear music score of wow... well it wants to make me play lool. i loved and still love the musical score of wow. i probably will be rifting at end of march, well i hope. there's only one mmo ( well apart from gw2 ) that i'm really interested and that is World of Darkness. i do hope whitewolf and partner does something special. a decent vampire/weirwolf mmo is long over due. sigh and yes i do miss tabularasa :(

I miss Tabula Rasa too, that was an amazing game. Rift has one thing from there: invasions and I love that.

Hmmm... I get all dreamy-eyed when I think back to FFXI's Besieged invasions.
Gawd those were awesome (as long as you weren't on PS2 or Xbox, in which case you would simply crash and/or DC after 3 seconds)

SW:TOR - with Bioware saying that they're pretty much sticking to WoW's formula for success ... I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.
FFXIV - may as well forget - they would need to rebuild the entire game from the ground up.
GW2 - you're obviously not following it very well ... or you would see that they're taking a massively different approach to anything any MMO has ever done before. Kinda, y'know - fresh.

As far as RIFT goes - people have been saying that it has a blend of WoW and Aion - I'm inclined to agree ... but if that puts you off at least remember that there's a new storyline to play through, new quests to do, and a new system dynamic - so you can't call it a clone of either.

Have you actually spent time playing the game? If not, then the "it's WoW with pretty graphics" argument doesn't really wash.

WoW - as you say, is accessible. The problem with massive accessibility is the fact that every idiot who thinks his opinion is worth something can now play and make stupid comments about how they could have developed Factor A or Feature B in a better way, except ... funny thing is - they never do. They just sit behind their screens and whine and fail to be true and proper gamers.

Have some cheese to go with your whine.

Now that the game has been released, do we have a server that people will be rolling on. Dont want to hit the situation where you roll on a server and no other SA people play there.

From what I've been seeing on the thread so far, most of thye guys are rolling on Steampike, but you may want to wait for one of the active players to let you know. That's probably where I and one or two of my other friends will be ending up come April.
