Monitors getting higher tax rate.

Don't know if people heard this or not. But a new tax rate of 34% is being imposed on monitors (tvs and displays)

So, we get taxed on our earnings, this and VAT. A monitor costs us a huge amount. :cry:
 
"However, monitors bigger than 45cm also attract an additional 25% duty over and above the 7%, which adds a total of 32% onto prices even before monitors hit the shelves and distributors have added their markup to the products."

The reason why i said this is because i know many distributors are increasing them. Even if they "can be avoided", the prices of wholesale is going up and therefore the price of the end user.

Yip. Government needs to tap into the public even more, because they are spending(wasting) at such rate, the usual methods can't keep the coffers full anymore.

If they legalized weed they'd be able to tax all the drug dealers (small to big) and bring in an additional couple of hundred million a year they could snort off their coke-whores breasts... I mean, organize meetings to discuss (and not act on) policy meant to help the economy...
 
Isnt there a 7% rebate if the Monitor is a Televison Set? Something about it being government subsidised? To the distrubutors anyway, cause i heard/read to avoid the extreme tax on the PC monitors they were going to import them as TVs instead.

they used to do it the other way around... import monitors without tuners and then install the tuner afterwards... which is a large reason why it is becoming very onerous for pc owners.

from what i can tell, the prices are going to jump by around 30%. So it is probably a good idea to buy while stocks last at old prices.
 
30%! That is crazy. Why not just tax the TV cards that go into the PC? And leave the few % of people that use a normal PC screen as a TV in peace.
 
This is getting way out of hand now. Just pure exaggerated greed. So the monitor I had my eye on might increase in price now. It sucks.
 
Yep, if you are interested in getting a new monitor... it is a good idea to try catch some of the old prices now.

Maybe we should petition to close SABC 1 and 2?

DSTV is bad, SABC, thats a whole new level of lame.

But shouldn't something like this tax be levied against TV cards and what not, with out that we can't really watch TV. Unless they call watching movie clips on your pc as TV?
