I thought I'd create a thread where we can recommend games that are totally awesome but hardly known (or mostly forgotten).
I'll start:
Future Cop: L.A.P.D (1998) - I had such a blast in this game a few years back. Apparently it didn't sell too well, but man was it awesome. You basically get to walk around in a mech dealing with bad guys. The multiplayer aspect was also very fun.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999 - I think) - Probably the best RTS I've ever played. Truly a work of art. Basically you, as well as a number of other factions (either PC or other-player-controlled) work to populate a new planet known as Alpha Centauri. Your ultimate goal is total global domination, which can be achieved through research, warfare, urbanisation and the like. The mechanics are simple to learn but difficult to master, as it's rather complex. There's a whole host of different weapons, bases, and upgrades you can build from interplanetary missiles to children's creche's
It's truly a joy playing it and the experience is also enhanced by a large number of cinematic cut scenes.
There's a rumour going around that an Alpha Centauri 2 may be in the works. I'd be so happy if that happened.
