Graphics cards that you brought and left you with dissapointment

Yeah well the problem is the guy who was fixing the pc was also a client of my mom's and long term friend. The new pc came about 7 months after we sent the new pc in for repairs. In a way it was my fault due to the fact that he would pay for our cellphone bills out of my moms salary. My phone bill was excessively high - damn cellphone games from exact mobile lol.
But still that whole thing with his minion stealing the graphics card nearly cost my moms friendship with this guy

That is why you try to never do business with friends or family. If things go sour you can never really act out like you want to and if you do you might not be in good stead with them after that. I would still have had the guy that works for him arrested that stole the card. Screw him!

I haven't owned a graphics card that I thought was bad, all the way back to my Voodoo.

S3 Trio 64V+
Voodoo 2
Riva TNT 2
Radeon 9000 Pro
Radeon X1950XT
8800GT
GTX 295
Radeon 4870X2
Radeon 5850
Radeon 5970
Green or red next? *flips coin*

They were all great cards, most of them are still in use.

I bought myself a XFX GTX280 at the start of last year from BidOrBuy and paid R2k for it (Was retailing for about R4k - R6k at the time). Thought it was amazing and started saving up to get a new motherboard and then get myself another one and pop it into SLi.

Few months later along comes DX 11 and with me being quite the Battlefield 3 anticipator I'm regretting that card a bit... Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing card and still runs great, but I'm kicking myself not thinking about DX11...

Eish!!! Must have been the worst feeling ever when you found out about DX11.

I had a Geforce 5900GTX and I paid a buttload for it.
The price dropped by 40% 2 weeks later and it only lasted just over a year.

Don't suppose you bought it from a guy called Streetracer? For some reason he manages to get all the XFX cards. On a side note, I am really sadpanda that XFX refused to do Nvidia cards anymore :( I love XFX but hate ATI/AMD!

Don't know what happened to him after that. I think he got fired.

Hi guys I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this but I put up my rig in another thread about an upgrade and I wanted to keep my graphics card only to hear it does not support DX11 I have the XFX 9600GT. I was wanting to know what cards I should look into.. would I be able to get something decent for R1000-R1500?? The games I play are a little of everything, FPS, MMO, RTS, RPG... Just looking for something to keep me going for the next couple of years..

8800 GTS 320mb.

Why? Reason being, shortly thereafter nVidia released the 640mb version and shortly thereafter they produced the 8800 GTS 512mb which just kicked the crap out of both cards.

You effectively had the same model number used on 3 different cards, but with very different performance in games. Although that being said, I'm not saying the 8800 series of cards were bad, just that this specific unit was a let down for me.

Oh, and most ATI cards :P (for the simple reason that they do not do CUDA and physx).

If you are in Cape Town, Springbok Computers in Plumstead are selling a Sparkle 460GTX for R1599. 1GB ddr5. Otherwise see what prices elsewhere charges

If I go way back I bought a 3D Graphics Blaster in 1998 that was a load of crap, replaced it with an ATI Rage 3D 8 meg that was pretty awesome for it's time, I eventually upped it to 16megs and then replaced it with a Voodoo 3 3500

5890?

for me, the 5770. GTS 250 was a better buy, as I got it for cheap. ;)

Eish!!! Must have been the worst feeling ever when you found out about DX11.

Would have been worse if I managed to save up and get the second one for SLi... :)

Jip, Streetracer it was indeed.. I think he's got someone on the outside bringing him the cards in and getting it past customs..

If I remember correctly, Nvidia sort of refused doing business with them as they started selling AMD based cards where they were previously Nvidia only. Thereafter they were still giving them parts, but not Fermi cards. And then none at all when they launched the 400-series last year.

I'm also quite a Nvidia fan, but the cards that ATI's been bringing out since AMD is great..

EDIT: Found a post explaining the XFX situation: linky
