Duke Nukem Forever - Just finished it

All I can say is thank the oranges I didn't pay for this ...... wow, what a meh title. It really is as if this game came through a wormhole from the 90's

seriously people. if you expected the next big shooter and are disappointed by this you've only yourselves to blame

no one else.

I completely agree.

I think how you feel about this game is determined by what you were expecting in the first place... If you thought it would be crap, you'll play it and confirm that it's crap. If you go into it without expectations of it being a game of the year contender, I don't think you'll be so disappointed.

I bought it and I'm enjoying it, it's pretty much exactly what I was expecting it to be like.

You have to put yourself in a mindset of this game being released around 1997-1999. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Plassie we have had this discussion before tho. I play the HRP for Duke 3d often, and I love it. I just feel that there isn't that special "something" that makes it what it is. Perhaps it could be because I am bored of the same old kind of stuff. Run up to turret, shoot the things until something happens, I dunno it felt too stock standard to me.

I thought the graphics were great and gameplay were smooth, but I dunno, it was just.... meh!

As a sidenote, I felt the best enemies were the Alien Captains, by far they were the hardest and only enemies that made you think about what you did. The part in the Lady Killer casino with them was awesome though, really enjoyed that.

Oh, and EDIT: The game felt like 1 chapter. Where was the 15 hours Randy Pitchford promised?

We’re finding that the average gamer who has not played before is taking about 15 to 16 hours to finish the campaign.

Taken from here

I finished the game in 7 hours... including playing all the side quests and little easter egg games and what not. I think for me that was the thing that pissed me off the most...

Oh wait: EDIT x2: my steam profile says I have played it for 5 hours :/

I think I'll take a skip on this one. :D

Thanks for the honest opinion Terak. I probably would have the same opinion so I'm going to save my bucks.

Achievements will take you very long my friends... about 7 hours in fact, so that tallies up to 15 hours :D

Yeah, this game clearly wont be for me. For one I'm not a duke fan so was never really part of the DNF hype. I also expect games to at least attempt to move the genre forward, especially at full price and this looks like a few steps back in that regard. Maybe when this hits the Steam bargain bin aka $5 region. :)

You don't realy count as "the average gamer". ;)

Did they use the doom3 engine for this game?

Haha I'm average enough, not like i went through the game headshotting everyone haha

No its the Unreal 3 engine. They switched between like 4 engines or something during development

I reckon this will go on special pretty quickly on Steam. Once the initial hype has died down and everyone realises this was a flop, the specials will start rolling in. I say 2 months.

I noticed BulletStorm is selling for R299 already at a few places, isn't it only a few months old? It's finally good to see game prices dropping when sales aren't great.

I laughed my ass off when the grunt offered Duke a Halo Combat suit and he was like: "Combat Suits are for pussies!" :D

Who remembers the bit where the General or President tells him he must do this for America... and duke starts singing "Americaaaaaaaaaa fuck yea!!"
