Free MINECRAFT Server for 1.6.6

It has come to my attention that many players of Minecraft play the free version of Minecraft, as this is convenient for most gamers, hosting for Minecraft is very difficult due to the fact that 4 mg lines are hard to come by, if this thread gets many approvals by fellow Gamers, we would love for igame to give the opportunity to host this brilliant marvel of a game, and give what all the 1.6.6 version players what they need desperatly, a server for all to enjoy the greatness of Minecraft. aswell as OP for Gamers. This server would be open to imagination of players, and structures of many kinds to be made and showed off by Gamers. thank you for your time, we would love for this idea to follow through.:)

If you can get some guys to support this initiative, we would definately look at hosting one :)
We normally require 16 Supporters to a single server request

One quesiton though, I have noticed that the other SA servers are very very closed off and extemely tightly regulated, ie, players hae to apply to be able to play on them etc

Is there a reason for this and if so, what is that reason?
We tend to not want to host private closed off, private "club" servers as we are a public service provider, in other words, our servers must be free for the majority of players to join an play on if hostd as an iGame server

Well our group of friends use Hamachi, and we had started with about 5 people, and the server had grown to about 15, so anyone that we know of that wants to join can feel free to come join the server, we also have a teamspeak channel which is open for all players willing to join.. and its has worked, i think this community can grow rapidly.

Yeah, minecraft is quite fun when you're bored, although if we host a server, we're gonna need to keep an eye out for griefers that would just want to destroy stuff. I'm game for a server though :) I've had problems hosting a server though, with it being too laggy for other players, I have a 4mb line and a machine that can handle about 10 players.

What are system requirements for this type of server and does it have a dedicated server or are the available server modes only Listen Servers ?

Ow awesym :), yea its a mission hosting for this game, but i think if we can have a mature individual admining the server. I think there can b no chance for griefers, and maybe the idea of teamspeak channel, like a pickup for cod4, need to be on teamspeak. that could fix that problem

This is going to be epic :D

I fully encourage this idea and i rate it will be epically epic :).
If the server is hosted I recommend using -9028489474908844496 as a seed :).
It contains beautiful scenary and awesome floating mountains. :) :D

whom ever the host is.. its a fixed ip, so i think it would most likely be a dedicated server, not to sure about the requirments though

Yeah, Teamspeak channels are easy to setup anyway. All I know is, Minecraft is VERY CPU and RAM intensive, especially when hosting.

I would suggest Teamspeak 2 though, in case players with 384 lines and such, can't handle Teamspeak 3.

Since It seems your refering to the WAGE server. The reason is anyone can connect and break stuff and steal stuff. So having them whitelisted(MOD) is to prevent, anyone coming on the server and doing that. The vanila server is great for friends multiplayer but as soon as you have a dedicated server you need to take in acount not everyone are friends and so have to add mods to prevent people from PVP where ever or put a lava block on the spawn block so anyone that dies goes and dies again in this block of lava.

Also 1.6 is very unsable so the server gets regular restarts and 1 dedicated admin and a few extra to help out.

Pretty high I remember Choc saying he could run 12 servers of Crysis 2.

Pretty much what Waco said. The applying/white-listing procedure needs to be in place to prevent people from griefing. Unfortunately there have been many cases in the past where people decide that they would like to have a little bit of fun and destroy other peoples stuff. So in future, people need to apply and motivate why they wish to join. Once that has been done, they are added to the white-list and are able view/access the world apart from regions protecting spawn etc.

Generally the server is heavy on resources and requires a fair amount of maintenance, in terms of updates and player control. The amount of CPU and RAM usage is pretty phenomenal, even on a Xeon, haven't really seen that with any other game servers.

I would be so ampted :D

Basically all you need to do is download the server software from mincecraft.net, now there are to options. You can either have the server authenticate with the minecraft logon server which would require everyone to have a payed for copy of the game. or you may run it without the authentication and anyone with the same version of the game may join. There is a whitelist included which basically if enable only allows people on the server if their names are on the list. Personally i think the whitelist is good because it stops people from smurfing and changing their nicknames every 5min.

please do this but the question is how are we going to host it since hamachi has a limit on the people so about 15 people can join on one hamachi sooooo now we just have to think how we going to host it :D

I've hosted the server for awhile, aswell as my friend for decent/ryno etc..

The minecraft community is a great success, and iGame should really consider taking this opportunity to support a growing community.

The way we play it, you have the person who hosts the server as the main admin and you give every OP which allows players the freedom of admin. It really is great, and the stuff we build is really great and we spent hours playing it.
I'll be hosting the server until we get a response from you guys!

Great idea decent :)

Thanks, but I actually wasn't referring to your server by itself, I am aware of more then one server being active locally that uses this "Club" setup.
I can only see that type of system working if you have a truly neutral party or panel of players deciding on who plays and who doesn't, which is probably the route we would follow
