Retail Wheunis?
I mean im not judging or anything but just cause its not on steam you wont get it?
.....
While you do have a valid view on it, see it from someone else's perspective for a moment.
The main problem for me has become damage to physical media. Secondary to that is damage to hardware. If there is one thing I have gotten so sick of in the last decade, it's optical disk drives simply dying for no good reason.
While people would go around and sling their feces at my face for not removing the disc from the drive and storing it safely when I'm done playing, I have to wonder what kind of backwards mentality they persist in their lives.
Is it suddenly better just because it's backwards? No.
Does it suddenly blow my world into tiny bits because it seems unlikely that I will play this game? No.
I would love for somebody to rationally explain to me why it is so wrong to want something my way.
I don't like optical discs. End of it. You won't ever manage to persuade me to like them.
I don't like mechanical drives that are prone to failure at 1000 hours operation. Same as above.
Even if I were to tolerate both the above, I have very limited physical storage space. Pretty much just my desk area. That's all I have. I am not allowed to mount shelves if they will leave marks or require drilling. Landlord's orders are solid on that.
So... what is so wrong in saying "If not digital, then nothing at all".
More on the multi-source further down.
Retail is going to use Origin, as far as I know.
Err, retail will be in a box just like most other games, including being downloadable via Origin.
Valve will push Origin on you, in the retail copy.
It will become their "DRM" just like Steam is to Valve. Funny part of the story is that even though I use Steam, I don't own a single Valve game at all. But just as Valve forces Steam on you in their retail copies of games, EA will do the same.
So really, as mentioned above and with further below... No Steam = 99% chance of me skipping BF3.
I already have three, but now it's an encumbrance to keep everything updated. Primarily I use Steam and GoG, then EDM for some titles I got really cheap before it went all ZOMG LOCAL PRICE++.
Yeah. I just don't see myself going that way.
I have in my entire life not been so desperate for a special that I felt like changing the way I purchase.
D2D can have a special on something for however low they want. At some point in the not too distant future, that exact same special (or better) will be on every other distro's list sooner or later. Might as well wait a while.
And if it never happens, then so be it. My whole existence as never been flattened due to not playing this or that title.
I understand why you went the route you did. Such is your choice and freedom to do so.
I rather decided to carefully evaluate all options available and stick to my choice right up to the end.
If I ever do abandon Steam for something else, it will be entirely. I hate doing things half-arsed.
No worries for me, was going for the physical copy anyways, downloading it on 384 would mean I'd still be waiting for my dl to complete while everyone else is experiencing its awesomeness
That concern I can appreciate.
Luckily, Steam and it's kin (D2D, GoG, etc) all allow pre-download of the pre-order purchases. Around 2 weeks before shelf-date, the download will already be going. All but the most valuable files for execution of the game will already be on your machine for the midnight release. At that point your PC would only download the remaining few executable and DLL files on release day, and whatever extra patched info might be there (retail also needs to download that as well anyway).
I don't see why my choice (or anyone else's) should be ridiculed or treated as inferior by any members. A little disappointed in some of the members that I thought I could respect...
I never posted that your preferred platform is the most retarded thing on the planet, or that you're some kind of inferior bacteria for choosing said distribution, or for that matter that you're borderline functionally retarded for deciding to stick to your choices.
But hey, it's your choice if anybody prefers to act like a backwards, retarded, ignorant caveman.
I will be over here leaving you and your decisions well enough alone and not sinking to name-calling...
And yes, implying a tantrum is calling me a kid.
Calling me stupid doesn't help your credibility or maturity much.
I will just happily continue to engage people in conversation, while reporting such posts directed at me as inflammatory and offensive.
