Gaming..... is buying the game you play important to the experience??

I play all my pc games I have and I only buy xbox games.. Just to put it out there.. The last time I bought a pc game was in 2001...

I've got the opposite attitude. I buy most of the SP focused games and than pirate alot of the MP ones. There are very few games a with a captivating multiplayer for me, otherwise the singleplayer is just a waste of time to buy. I'm not paying R300 or R400 for 5 hours of play and than possibly 10 minutes of online MP only to have all the servers shut down again because of nobody else playing. That, along with steam that refuses to cooperate with me and I'll never buy a steamworks game again in my life. Even if I do somehow get a reliable internet connection.

Steamworks require certain "level" of capability ;)

I do however agree on the SP being just about 5 hrs or more like half life ep 1 or MW2...

So would you buy mp focused games like MAG (for ps3)?
 
I buy most of the games I play on PS3 and one or two on X360 and PC. I do, however, also sometimes (very rarely) get a pirated game on PC just to check it out before I buy it. I got the (pirated) PC version of Red Faction: Armageddon and finished it, then I bought it on PS3 and finished it again as well as playing a few hours of MP. There is definitely a much greater sense of achievement/reward when finishing a game that you paid for as opposed to one you just downloaded/copied. As such, I almost never finish a pirated game, if I like it I'll buy it and if not I'll stop playing and delete it.

So i'm guessing Duke Nukem:Forever is one of the few games that's okay to pirate (you know 'cause you're going to delete it before finishing it)

LOL. That already happened. :p I still plan on buying a copy for the collection some day when it's dirt cheap, but I doubt I'll ever finish it.

I don't really think it's ok to pirate games, but I can't afford every single game that comes out (although I do buy most of them :p) and sometime I just need to make 100 % sure before taking out R500+.

I agree with you:)

Although most people would argue that you should 'get the demo' if you want to try out a game before buying it but usually the demo plays parts 'you'd love to play' and the rest of the game is a total eh....... letdown and besides I believe that if you're going to purchase a game then pirating it is like having an extra copy of something you already own
 
I personally don't play pirated games because of the fact that I wont be able to play on Xbox Live if I do something like that, but also it helps me to make better decisions about which game I eventually end up buying because you always need to think about your choice before you make the wrong one and regret buying it. :D
