rAge as a whole has lost its appeal. The LAN is seriously overrated. There is nothing the LAN offers I cannot get at home. In fact, it's worse. Smelly kids, no sleeping place, extremely crappy and expensive food, uncomfortable chairs after a few hours, super leechers and a generally crusty environment. I know for many this is the be all and end all, but after 2 or 3 rAges myself, I say enjoy it if it's your first time.
As for the expo, I attended that and wow, what a bore. I said the same thing last year and I'll say it again. What's the point? Bar maybe one or two stands, no one has any significant specials to make attending remotely worthwhile. There is hardly any new tech or games ever on display, so again, what's the point. And yes, SA is not on the list of major manufacturers or game developers' lists to spend big moolah on, but this is sadly what makes rAge boring. People attend a computer & gaming expo to see fancy new gadgets and new or upcoming game releases and rAge sadly struggles to offer this.
Part of the problem is the fact that the exhibitors pay an arm and two legs for floor space inside the Dome to sell anything, so they can't really afford to give discounts or specials. As I mentioned, sunny SA is not high on the list of priorities for major developers or manufacturers to show off their latest goodies and this also impacts negatively. The market here is simply too small for them to justify spending major cash to keep us happy.
In any case, enough ranting about rAge. rAge has huge potential, I just hope that NAG realises this before too many people lose interest.
On a side note ,what will happen if someone calls the cops to go raid their one day and see all the pirating going on?
