Grim Dawn

Every time the word Titan Quest comes up we start grinding up some chars to a certain level or start creating a new mixture or char. Then come OC or some random night, mostly OC though, then we hit it up and go on boss runs. Fun indeed.

I actually saw this last year some time I think. Looking forward to this.

Mmh. Looks good. Just overshadowed by all the other great titles coming out soon. Still, what I've seen is promising.

They don't want to slap any kind of date onto it, but it won't be this year...

As can be heard from the horse's mouth:

"Development is sometimes slow and difficult to schedule because Crate is a very small, "self-funded" team and some of our teammembers have to work day-jobs at other game companies to pay the bills...

...we hope to release an alpha in 2011 but, after all the blood and sweat we've invested in this game, we don't want to rush something out the door before it is ready."

Pity it isn't coming out this year, well at least I will have some money left on the 31st December.
That survival mode, is that the same sort of idea around alien shooter?

Quoting from the Grim Dawn forums as posted by the developers:

...we want to get something playable out as soon as we can that is fun to play but possibly very limited in terms of the amount of content and features. One idea we've discussed is releasing a sort of "survival mode" so that fans could experience the combat, character development, and item collection that exists currently while we continue to work on the quests / world / additional content and features...

We've gotten the game to the point where the core gameplay is pretty fun. It is just taking a long time to produce content with so few people. So, the idea is that perhaps we'd release a version where you could run through areas of the world, kill enemies, collect loot, level up your character, and try different mastery combinations, just without the story-questing and full world that we ultimately want to build. To this end, one of the things we've considered is a survival mode where you play through a randomized series of small maps, leveling up your character, collecting loot, and trying to stay alive. Essentially, it would be like playing the normal game in terms of killing, leveling, and looting, just without the complete world and quests.

They should do what some other indie games have done, you release an 'alpha' version for significantly reduced cost, get people playing and then increase the price the closer you get to release.

I think Minecraft started out at $5 and now it's $20(15 euros).

I think the most important thing this game will have to do right to be successful is random map generation, like Diablo 2 has, and secure closed servers where you can't cheat, also like Diablo 2.

I wonder how many people will be swapping over to this game since the recent news of Diablo 3 online requirements
