Game Psychology - A story of how the few stood against the many!

Righto... I'm new here :)

anyways...

The point of this thread refers to the psychology of gamers but more so the gamers of Bad Company 2.

Ive been playing Bad Company 2 for some time, and thoroughly enjoy it!

That being said, over time, Ive noticed things about how the players do under certain situations that the game presents.

Last week Friday A mate and I played a game on Harvest Day (Conquest), pretty full map, we were the Russian army and were totally DOMINATING! it wasn't long till the US army team started disconnecting like flies due to the continued slaughter... this happened to the point where it was grossly unbalanced! My mate and I decided to switch over to the US Army thinking "What the hell, we will most likely get auto balanced at some point, so lets go do our best!"

so the US army started to balance out again, and after struggling a bit to regain lost ground, we started getting somewhere! by the time we started gathering some momentum we had about 20 or so tickets left, we all believed that all hope was lost, but we thought "If we are gonna lose, lets make these suckers pay for their win!"

many of our team mates were fighting hard, not giving up even when one should give up (I guess ignoring the old saying "Choose your battles") Tanks drivers refusing at all costs to let that darn Havok blow it up! Medics working like hell keeping all the men in the fight!

Basically we had taken all 3 points on the map, and started holding them (MY HOUSE BABY!) we were at the point whereby we had 14 tickets left, and they had 160! to say the least, we ended up winning that game, and I think that every player on the US Army team threw a tantrum of sheer joy when we won! (Including myself and my mate, we practically destroyed my house and wouldn't stop talking about how severely we punished them Russians!!!

Basically, the thoughts we had after the game were that even the losing team, that have a mountain to climb can take back a game when just a few incite them to (Not to brag, but my mate and I started the party when we switched over, and in a sense feel responsible for our teams victory) not to say that we were better or played better the any of our team mates (As we all know, having a good player/s on your team doesn't mean you'll win the game) but because we went in wanting to turn the game around, wanting to own, this morale spread over to all our team mates, to the point where EVERY player on our team was literally a freaking HERO and never missed a shot and were true "die hards".

Morale and leadership apply to games just as much as it does in real life, most n00bs who play on the winning teams usually play allot better when they are not on the losing team, and even good players pull off some serious miracles when they have the backing of a well working team!

All in all the point of this thread is really to highlight how great some situations can be and to show that games are very psychological! When being owned, even though all hope is lost, stand up to your "bully" coz as we all know, the bully kaks himself lekker when you start hitting back! and who knows... you may just win a 14-160 game and have a good laugh about it afterwards!!

Peace out

Good point :) The most fun and memorable victory's I had was coming from behind in almost hopeless scenario's!!

gaming certainly are able to develop some life skills.

Man! That other team must have sucked real bad to lose with only 14 tickets to kill. Hahaha, just sayin' dude! :p

hehe, well, maybe they sucked, but I mean... cmon lol

WE GAVE THEM THE BLITZKRIEG!!!

Hahah :D Nice one, but give me a chopper and I'll help you finish those 14 tickets summah quick quick! :P

In all seriousness though, there's a lesson to learn from almost anything in life, including games. It just depends on the individual and where they look to learn those lessons.

Ja nice comeback as long as everyone has fun, I will stop playing if the fun goes away.

Absolutely! But I must say we need some serious freshness up in this place. Battlefield 3!

Just to add to the topic though, team morale can make a beeeeg difference in how an entire team plays. There was this one time on Laguna Alta where the one team was stuck in their base, being raped. So myself and my clanmates switched over and we amped the guys to get of their asses, use smoke and brute force to get out of that hole and push them back, which we eventually did and we started taking points back and were no longer stuck in our base.

I've noticed that a lot of people don't want to play as a team. I don't understand why they're so unwilling though. It's SO easy to spawn 6 engineers and co-ordinate an attack on the tank, all firing at the same time. Why don't people do that? That's why I love playing with my clanmates because it's a small unit of guys that work together as a team with precise tactics and that just makes it so much more fun, not to mention it brings out an entire different element in the gameplay. I think that's how the game was intended to be played. As a team.

Absolutely! I play with a few of my personal friends, and it really works out, verbal communication is also Key!

Agreed, it's so much better playing with clanmates! Feels like an entire different game...

I've seen abstract art more plausible than this.

To his credit, I have to say that I've seen some mad comebacks before. We we're playing on Atacama and we had something around 30 tickets to 120. We somehow managed to win that one as well by epic chopper pompage (:D) so it does happen quite often. Sometimes, all of a sudden, a team will just start working together and while you sit there happily pawning some noobs, having a sip of whiskey, when all of a sudden Armageddon unleashes on your ass and you lose before you can say "Holy cream cracker! I think they're taking our points!".

yeah :) And that's what I was trying to describe, sometimes the smallest thing, changes an entire teams attitude, its really interesting to see how it happens... sometimes for no reason at all too! fun fun fun ^^

HavocXphere Your entitled to your opinion I guess... :)
:)

In summary one side is "totally DOMINATING". Then 2 people switch who did not "play better than any of our team mates". And then they pull off 14-160. Thats going from a <1 k/d to a 11+ k/d team average.

EVERY player on our team [...] never missed a shot
Perhaps if you didn't exaggerate so much...

You could totally become the 2nd Tom Clancy though with that writing style of yours.

4 k/d with the help of "epic chopper pompage" vs 11+ k/d with the help of psychology. ;) 11k/d is possible for a person sure, but a team...unlikely.

I know epic comebacks happen but we're getting into turning water into wine territory here.

your too kind tooks

I find rush mode more fun, conquest is not really my thing because of the huge map size. Sometimes you got to trek across the map just to get shot at the checkpoint, annoying!
