Signature sizes reminder

Why? What purpose would that serve? "Oh no! You gave me negative rep so I'ma gonna give you negative rep every chance I get! /nerdrage?*

It's a silly little feature and really nothing to get worked up over.

Woooah, talk about hyperbole.

Do you guys get this hysterical when someone -1/thumbs down/dislikes a comment of yours elsewhere too?

Talk about jumping off into the deep end of Loony Town.

You guys don't have bigger/more pressing concerns in reality that what someone says/does on a forum gets your knickers in a knot?

Jeez, if I went hysterical every time someone said something mean/disliked something I wrote or went ape at an argument of mine I'd be batshit.

Tarryn deals with negativity and trolling on a daily basis, imagine if she took it as personally

Hell, weren't you all asking for the karma system to be implemented only a year or so ago? Now you're unhappy because some people give you negative rep?

Let's see, I've been called a troll, a "fucking moron" and then some.

So what if you get the odd negative rep, it works out in the end after all.

P.S. Just saw someone gave me negative rep, probably for giving them negative rep earlier in this thread. This is my give-a-damn face: :D It's a silly feature, you take it on the chin and move on with your lives. Id est: NO BIG DEAL :)

But it makes feel special when people love me and makes me feel like poop when they don't! :D

O en Faffa, LEGEN..........wait for it...........DARY fokken sig!

I could have negative 100, it wouldn't bother me ...... the people who's views count that know me wouldn't use stupid rep as a marker. I have an issue with the double standards side of it. If there is a blowout because of anonymous people commenting, it's kinda silly to have another system that does the same thing in a way.

You'd think you would know me better by now .......

I feel the same in that it doesn't bother me and I also agree that it's more of a popularity contest than any measure of an individual. In an ideal world it would be a thumbs up/down for a particular post and not a particular person (I'd totally dig that).

However, I freely admit that I do like rating posts as I read them. Generally I don't like giving negative rep out but there are some posts which really seem downright inflammatory or eye-rolling enough to warrant it. Blame my OCD or my banal love of giving an opinion in whatever form it necessitates. Also, sometimes giving/taking rep is easier/quicker/less confrontational than posting.

As I've said, people have given me shitty rep in the past and more than once with a pretty wtf comment. It's part of the anonymity and you take it with a bucket of salt. If someone makes it their agenda to target you then that says way more about them than it does you. Don't take it personally.

As for knowing you better... *shrug*. I've realised a long time ago that the only person you ever "know" is the face that they let you see. I don't have a problem with your or anyone and even people whose opinions I might really, really dislike (homophobes, racists, trolls, whatever) I'm always willing and more than happy to start over tabula rasa but with many people that's not possible (read: grudges or whatever).

Others still I think have very ambiguous personalities and forked tongues.

I like to think that I like everyone until they prove me otherwise :p

Also, regarding the anonymous people commenting thing... I don't think anyone's issue is so much the anonymous people commenting (I also post as Anonymous after my alias was impersonated) but with people trolling as other individuals.

I'd say sure, let's put our names in when we add/remove rep, but that just leaves room for people to impersonate and stir shit.

I don't mind fessing up if I've given you negative rep, I've just never seen it as a big deal. Evidently, there are some people who do which kind of makes it funny in a way: there are people who think gender-based jokes are hilarious and couldn't care less how that affects others, but might get upset at something silly like negative rep.

It's just... how does it really affect you? Your epeen gets hurt? What? It's just a silly gimmick.

And just to be clear, I mean "you" in the generalised sense and not as you :)

I don't know how to express myself. This just seems like such a complete non-issue.

Personally, I feel rep systems are totally unnecessary in the first place. People put too much stock in them. You should be judged according to how well thought-out and intelligent your posts are, not some number next to your name that pretty much lends itself to abuse. If a rep system needs to be implemented, I say the best way to do so is like I suggested. I'm not sure if it's possible on VB, though. I often see similar systems employed on Ip.Board, but have never seen it on vb.

Heheh; shall we start another thread to discuss the rep system? Let's keep this one about the signatures.

I've been reading through all the feedback and I'd like to say thanks to everyone for sharing their views.

I understand the various desires at play. People want to add a personal touch to their posts and make themselves stand out in the forum discussions. Others want to proudly display their various gaming stats through use of auto-signature generators.

On the other hand I have to balance the forum's appearance and readability. As was pointed out, signatures don't exist on MyBB and for good reason. On a gaming forum there is obviously room for that.

So, currently I'm sitting with a decision to make; the new signature height limit. It's clear from the feedback that 90px high is just too small in this day and age.

It looks like 155px high should be enough to accommodate most auto-sig generators and people who want more elaborate colourful signatures.

Wow that looks big :( What do you guys think?

I think that's pushing it, but it's not overwhelmingly big so I'd be fine with it.

I think "big sigs" would really only be an issue for people making use of small desktop resolutions. What's MyG's site stats? How many people visit using smaller than 1920x1080?

I like that size, it looks a bit massive because of the giant font / black background.
A decent art work sig or gaming tag won't look as big and imposing.

Densweep, I do not know if you like your current signature or not but if you want to keep the width you can use the following, I was a bit bored and played around with the image.

I do not know if you or someone in your clan created the signature but you can just slap your name and the website url on it, then it will not look so squashed.

It is 590 x 130 by the way. :)

Yeah that's pretty big - but then Exophase's standard sig wouldn't be a problem then? The one I'm using now is a bit bleak.

Yeah, it's basically to accommodate Exophase. The questions is, how important is that accommodation versus keeping things looking clean.

I created all their sigs, hence I offered to do resizes or make new ones. Me no like squashed sigs either, lol.

How about 130px maximum for signature with the ONLY exception to the rule being the Exophase combo gamercard thing because it doesn't look horrible?

RustPuppet your feedback on this would be good too, since you'll be helping me moderate people who push the limits past 130px with anything other than the approved exception.
