Starting my own online hardware shop

Great news dude, I wish you the best of luck. It's a tough market, but if you get in there and do well, then you're set. I might even buy a PC from you too one day :D

Yeah i reckon you need a BF3 pc to suit you're BF reputation :D lol

Thanx again guys.

Stuck on the name..Would Ideally like to have the name as the website name.

Gamersrigs = bit of a tongue twister, gamingrigs should provide more google hits - good luck trying to find a name not registered yet; this can be a frustrating task.

Couple of thought:

Your website name should resemble common google searches to enable more hits on your site.

The market is extremely competitive. Once someone finds a reputable online shop which provides good service delivery, they tends to stay there and build loyalty. You have to have something unique that separates you from the group, and client service and price is key. Look into "emotional engagement".

Your website design will also play a big role. It needs to be functional, user friendly, easy on the eye and have an effective carting/basket system. Someone mentioned the credit card payment option, this sway a lot of users and if you can, try and implement this facility. Paypal is also a good value added option.

Getting suppliers, relisble suppliers and building relationships takes a while and requires a lot of trial and error and patience. So choose your products and brands wisely.

I'm no expert on the matter, just wanted to add my 2 cents. Good luck with your endeavors!!

Im sure I'll be able to get the name I really want :)
Website design will be done by my brother who is an absolute genius when it comes to that, so I am not to worried about that.
As for suppliers, I already have all of them under my belt, so not bothered about that, those relationships were formed ages ago, I think I'll have a much better entrance into the market than any other online shop because of this.

hee hee... tis not the webdesign that is difficult... but the programing of the site to work well. That takes knowledge of PHP.

:D Yeah he is a pro, Im not even worried about that part, cause I've seen his work. There is a reason he earns close to 100k a month xD The one little thing that is bugging me though are the colors..Not sure whether I want a dark themed site..or something with more color...

I am still planning on opening the shop guys :)
Only in the new year though. Things are a little bit hectic at the moment.

I guess that goes with the end of year rush. Everyone is frantic, businesses launching their end of year products, people getting ready for hols etc. Setting it all up in the new year is probably better. Gives you time to plot as well.

Yip quite correct.
At the moment my "Real" Job is keeping me insanely busy. So will focus on this during the next 2 months. Then get it up and running :) Will obviously let you guys know when it'll be launching :D

It will be a balance of getting the site perfect and getting it up as soon as you can so that you start getting exposure.

The cool thing about SEO is that if you start it early then adding content increases your standing.

Also, a website is never finished 8)

See if you can get distro rights to NZXT and carry the items that performance-pcs.com carries.

Hey dude, just a quick thing, don't know if it was asked but not going to read through 6 pages of stuff to see.

Have you thought about partnering up with somebody in different cities. As far as I know you are in JHB area, but for somebody like me it does me know good since I am in Cape Town.
But having a partner in say CT and maybe even in Durbz to help you out. Maybe like a franchise offering instead of just limiting yourself to one city.
Remember hardware is more expensive down here (as far as I know) because everything first goes to JHB then shipped across country. So having that and having distribution from JHB (you) to your franchises might be able to be a good option?

Well yeah I have, I am not crazy about the idea xD I'm not sure if there is anyone out there that has the same work ethics and that will share the same dream. Will think about it long and hard but if someone down in cpt/dbn wants a pc built I would glady have it couriered down to them.

The problem that I am scared of for your sake is that sometimes things damaged in transit, and getting courier transport can be expensive.

The are things to worry about a bit later. When he starts getting orders he can look at couriers. I have used fedex quite a lot and they are pretty cheap when you have an account with them.
