My BF3 PC setup

I would rather get less ram...

maybe swap out the keyboard for a Mech :D
Nope, I want to run some virtual PCs while doing my MCITP, so that RAM is fine. Actually looking at the price difference to upgrade to an i7 2600 to get more cores.

I was told that the Logitech G19 is the ultimate keyboard. With BC2 you can adapt the LCD on the keyboard to display vital stats.

Ah yeah, VM's need some ram. So that is good.

Logitech don't make Mechanical keyboards... so everything else is good on it except the actual use in games/typing... which is the primary use of keyboards O.o

My planned R7K upgrade.

MSI Intel Z68A-GD85
Intel ® i5-2500 QC Sandy Bridge 3.30 GHz
4 x 4096MB DDR3
MSI N560GTX TI-Twin Frozr II OC, 1GB (Current GeForce 8800GTS will move to the 2nd slot for PhysX calculations)

I only bought the 5770 last year, so I will see how it handles itself in the next few games (BF3, Skyrim, ME3) before I think of upgrading it. The rest of the machine was somewhat older, and since I had some cash left over after my holidays, I decided to renew the foundations with something really kick-ass. So far I'm happy.

Can't wait for the game to be released! Here is my rig:

12GB's of RAM I think thats a bit too much but you can never have enough!! I got 8 GB's and BF3 did'nt even eat it all. Think max usage I registered was 3GB's, with the whole alt+tab to battle log they had to have awesome memory management implemented.

Typing, what's that? In my trade, you have to be able to type on anything used by your clients :D. Luckily I have never had to use a Braille keyboard.

Depends on your application there off. You can never have enough.

Are you running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows. Remember that Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit can only address 3.72Gb of RAM and not 4Gb as told to you by clever sales people or uninformed persons.

If you for the 2500 rather get the K version its easier to OC

hmmm... x86 can address 2^32 bytes of ram = 4096Mb

The rest is used by GPU and virtual address space. you can get around it with PAE hacks but there really is no reason not to use 64bit windows these days.

12GB of ram is nothing if trying to run VMs!!! So it is definitely not an overkill if that is one of the requirements. This is not the case with gaming and other uses of ram though.

My rig is in my sig. I have just added a 60GB Corsair Force3 SSD. Will get my second GTX580 soon. Just to make sure i am BF3 ready. Did not play the beta unfortunately. Have preorder ready and paid for so just waiting for the 28th October.

Beware that SSDs are still somewhat unstable and unreliable. I will give it another year before getting one myself.

In defence of SSDs, it is the most effective way to improve performance on a 2+ year old rig.

That 60Gb might be a bit small for Win7's liking though.

O yeah, just got confirmation from TakeALot that I will have my pre-order in my hands on launch day.
One week BABY!!!

+1

Someone told me that SSD's is a bit dodgy, but I didn't want to believe any of it, just wanted the performance upgrade. So I bought myself a Corsair P-128 SSD (128gb). After 3 months I had to send it back for a replacement...drive just got totally corrupt and didn't function after.

Maybe I had a bad batch...I mean it is electronics after all...

Still the best upgrade I did up to date though.

I'd also say that 60gig might be a bit small as a C:\Drive
