Nope, I want to run some virtual PCs while doing my MCITP, so that RAM is fine. Actually looking at the price difference to upgrade to an i7 2600 to get more cores.I would rather get less ram...
maybe swap out the keyboard for a Mech![]()
My planned R7K upgrade.
MSI Intel Z68A-GD85
Intel ® i5-2500 QC Sandy Bridge 3.30 GHz
4 x 4096MB DDR3
MSI N560GTX TI-Twin Frozr II OC, 1GB (Current GeForce 8800GTS will move to the 2nd slot for PhysX calculations)
Can't wait for the game to be released! Here is my rig:
Intel i7-910 overclocked to 3.9Ghz
Corsair H-100 Watercooling
3 x 4Gig 2000Mhz Vengeance Memory
Gigabyte UD3R M/B
128Gb P-128 Corsair SSD
2 x 2TB Baracuda XT's
Gigabyte GTX590
Logitech G510 K/B
Gigabyte M8000X Ghost Mouse
1 x 27" & 2 x 24" LED's
12GB's of RAM I think thats a bit too much...
Typing, what's that? In my trade, you have to be able to type on anything used by your clientsLogitech don't make Mechanical keyboards... so everything else is good on it except the actual use in games/typing... which is the primary use of keyboards![]()

Depends on your application there off. You can never have enough.12GB's of RAM I think thats a bit too much but you can never have enough!! I got 8 GB's and BF3 did'nt even eat it all. Think max usage I registered was 3GB's, with the whole alt+tab to battle log they had to have awesome memory management implemented.
Are you running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows. Remember that Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit can only address 3.72Gb of RAM and not 4Gb as told to you by clever sales people or uninformed persons.12GB's of RAM I think thats a bit too much but you can never have enough!! Checked Pinnacle's price list yesterday, the 2500K is cheaper by a few hundred than the normal 2500!! Very cool.If you for the 2500 rather get the K version its easier to OC
lol Weird wow, its a better option but the 2600k if you really want is a beast...Checked Pinnacle's price list yesterday, the 2500K is cheaper by a few hundred than the normal 2500!! Very cool.
Yes, I know. But that is just over R1000 extra to get 4 additional virtual cores...

hmmm... x86 can address 2^32 bytes of ram = 4096MbAre you running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows. Remember that Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit can only address 3.72Gb of RAM and not 4Gb as told to you by clever sales people or uninformed persons.
Nice rig
Beware that SSDs are still somewhat unstable and unreliable. I will give it another year before getting one myself. My rig is in my sig. I have just added a 60GB Corsair Force3 SSD. Will get my second GTX580 soon. Just to make sure i am BF3 ready. Did not play the beta unfortunately. Have preorder ready and paid for so just waiting for the 28th October.

In defence of SSDs, it is the most effective way to improve performance on a 2+ year old rig.
That 60Gb might be a bit small for Win7's liking though.
