Hi Yotta, it's more the case of me not reading the newsletter properly and then deleting it. The problem is totally on my side. I am really enjoying the site so keep it up, the concept works incredibly well for those of us who still love chess but cannot carve out enough time to play a full game in one sitting.

Now if you could find a a way to make my current opponents move quicker that would really be great ;)

I'm sure I am going to regret that act of kindness one day when you whip me. My win against you was pure fluke and not by design, I was close to resigning.

BTW I see that Gary Kasparov is coming to South Africa in Nov to promote chess in schools.

That is true. According to my knowledge SA has only produced one international woman grandmaster. What amazes me is that she is only 15.

I think the reason why countries such as Russia does so well at chess, is because chess is a compulsory subject at school level, so almost every Russian knows how to play chess.

There is bound to pop up more grandmasters if everyone knows how to play the game.
 
I still do believe however that SA has a lot of good players that just needs to be discovered (old and young).
 
I agree Yotta. And I wonder what happened to so many players that were so great in school. I made it to Provincial level at school but only barely. There were some awesome players and I wonder if they stopped playing.

Also how does one compete in adult chess (why does it sound so dirty?) here in South Africa? Chessa's website doesn't seem to have a lot of information.

Haha I haven't been able to beat him either. We've got two draws strangely enough.

*edit* btw fayainz, I never have been able to figure out who you are on there. It's not as fayainz, because I've looked for that name. Or maybe I'm just blind but I looked now through Yotta's history and I don't see your name there at all.

LOL. Although, I think credit should go more to you for being a good player. I see you are currently number 7 on the rankings. Well done.
 
Good news is that this thread is now a sticky (thanks James!) and I see that ChessConquest is now pointing to it on the main page. :)
 
Well done to yotta for the Chessconquest site. It IS unique amongst the many sites that I have used. I like the simple time rules, and the real South African flavour. It is all no-nonsense with the simple message "Let's play chess for the fun of it."

Other sites have more learning opportunities, stronger players and flashier interfaces, but right now I enjoy this site more than any of the others.

tallfred, you are exceptionally good. Do you play in tournaments and the like? Also you look familiar, did you by any chance play for the Vaal Triangle team back when you were in school?
