Will Skyrim need Steam?

Well i'm planning on buying a Skyrim HardCopy and was wondering if i have to tie it down to a steam account to play it.If i loose my steam account (seeing that steam was recently hacked),does my HardCopy become useless?

Lol, you seriously need to have Steam foisted on you to play the game? Preview it is then, I don't want Steam thanks, I already have that Origin crap.

I don't understand people's issues with Steam. It's not a piece of shit that refuses to work like it was in 2004 any more.

i think allot of guys is on 3g or capped products dislike it, i know when i was on 3g ,steam never touched my pc, a week after adsl i had it on my pc lol

Guess i'll be going the other route,i would have bought the game if it wasn't for steam.
So you're going to pirate the game because it uses Steam? Please go jump off a bridge.

If something as small as requiring Steam causes you to pirate a game as massive as Skyrim then I guess you were going to do that all along.

The pirates goto excuse "oh I would have bought it except for [insert any old reason]".

Steam for anyone with a connection slower than 1024kbps is almost unusable.

I am taking the game back to the shop because of steam. Know at least 4 other people that are/have done the same. Steam is still the useless crap it was for many of us. It is only the privilaged who can use it. I don't like that it forces you to update if you want to play.

After Portal 2, I vowed never to buy another steam game ever again. It took 3 weeks before I was able to play it because it kept deleting files (when we had a power failure or something) and having to redownload updates. Was the most irritating experience of my life. I will not support steam until I have a stable 10mb line.

Hate when companies force shit on you. They would have had mine and all my friends money if it wasn't steam. It isn't even as if they would have sold less due to piracy. The pirated version of Skyrim was out before the retail version. Oblivion didn't suffer much to piracy and it didn't even need online activation.

/shrug I have a 384kb connection, I manage Steam pretty well.

Forced? WTF if you just took the time to check out the back of the cover you would have clearly see that it needed steam to run. It was you who bought it without checking out the back and reading the requirements for the game so you where not forced.

I've been using Steam since HL2 when I was still rocking a 64kbps ISDN line so I have no idea where you're notion of needing a 10mbps line comes from. As for auto-updates well you can turn those off.

Anyway look if you have that big a problem with Steam then fine don't play it BUT don't use it as a bullshit excuse as to why you pirated the thing since if you can download a 5gb torrent you can dl a few patches every now and then or get a friend to do it for you.

No i wasn't,if i buy a hardcopy of a game then i want to be able to install it and play. And if i loose my steam account then it means this hard copy that i bought would be useless.

I thought about it a bit and i am going to buy the game, just going to have to download a few cracks so i don't have to tie it down to steam. It's a win win, developers get their money and i get the game without having to use steam.(also i don't want to wait 20+hours just to download a 5gig game)

You're buying a hardcopy FFS. Unless there is a patch you won't be downloading anything.

You've never used Steam, have you?

I am fully aware it is possible to use steam with a 384k line. but it is not pleasant. Especially when there is a new update every couple of days or the program fails to function correctly and needs to redownload stuff that was already downloaded. Portal 2 was the final straw. Auto update may be switched off.... but if you want to launch a game, you ALWAYS have to download the update. Unless you run it offline everytime.

I knew it had steam, but I decided to get it anyway, out of love for the game. But I didn't open the game and will take it back anyway.

I just doubted myself and tryed launching steam again. It took 5minutes to start up because it is always full of shit with downloading stuff and then, when I tried to launch Portal 2, it now had a 700+MB update to download. on my speeds of about 426kb, that would take for-fucking-ever. When I pay good money for a game, I don't want to always have to wait a day before playing it... or even 10 minutes. I want to install, play and replay whenever I want to. Steam was invented for countries with real internet. Not for us down here.

Either way, what was the purpose of making it a steam only game? If it was for piracy reasons, they failed. People will always find a way around copy protection. It is time that that stops inconviniencing the honest, paying customer, such as myself. If it was to make updates readily available, it has never been a problem in the past when they have the files available all over the web. I honestly can't think of any other reasons that they would make it a Steam only game... If anyone can give me one valid reason as to why it is made a steam game... Please, PLEASE let me know.

I mean i don't want to wait 20+hours to download the cracked game.Buy and install legit game then download a few cracks that won't be more then 5mb.I'm supporting the developers this way right?

Also i don't hate steam,i just hate to buy or tie down stuff on steam.

Well said reply. I have a buddy that has had to re-download his cod4 4 times because Steam has hissy fits when it wants to.
