Will Skyrim need Steam?

@HoboMincer
Steam is digital distro and those are normally made with 1st class dsl in mind and not like we have here in good old RSA. However I've had time to time an issue with steam, but those are really in the minor compared to how good steam actually work. Purpose of steam isn't just DRM alone and if you think so then you are surely fooled. It's the ease of use (for example everything combined into one CDN) and that it provides in it's best of capabilities taking our kak dsl in mind.

@MH
Couldn't your buddy asked someone to backup and restore their steam installation?

Must be just me but I don't have issues with steam. Granted I am now on a 4MB line, but I was on a 384K line for years and can't say I have ever had any serious issues. To use steam as an excuse to pirate a game is really lame. You would have to apply patches regardless if it was on steam or not, especially with regards to MP games.

DC is buying the game, he just doesn't wanna use steam so will use a crack instead .... am I the only one wondering why the piracy insults are being hurled around?

So you are telling me it would be very possible to install the game and then crack it? I thought steam games were more complex than that. I was just gonna miss out on it until telkom decided one day in the future to give me an adsl line. if I can install and crack it, I'll be fine with that :)

Can anyone confirm whether or not I can run the game, just from the steamapp folder (Skyrim.exe or whatever) Without steam open? If so, I'll install it now!

@HoboMincer

Yep,you also won't have to worry about any future updates unless you download them out of your own choice (cracked patches).

This one is for the legit version of skyrim if u have it.

Skyrim isn't TF2. Everybody knows TF2 gets patched more than once a week so bandwidth costs are huge. Skyrim will get maybe one or two more patches and then we're fine. Just play it in offline mode. :\

Nope you can't,it purposely needs some resources from steam to run (steam will launch when it's started up)

I see your point. But i've never heard anyone complain that a game WASN'T steam. They should leave us with the choice. Buy it over steam if we want or buy it from the shop and use normally like with Oblivion. I don't even have a land line :/ cable theives stole it many many years ago and telkom was like "screw you guys, I'm not giving you another one"

Well my current area seems to be one of those that telkom only maintain, but not upgrade any more as the fiber thing started, but now is laying here for months now. Steam is convenient for me and I really do like it the way it is. However I do also support "physical" shops from time to time, just not as much as I used too since going full 4 meg line uncapped.

Okay, In that case, let me know how the game plays when you have cracked it. If it crashes all the time etc, I will take it back. If it works fine, I will install and then crack

anybody know why Microsoft VC Redist Package is taking over an hour to get done with me?
384 line if that helps

And it is already giving me shit about "steam servers being too busy to handle my request" when installing from disc. But it is perfectly happy for me to download the full 5735.4MB
