Battlefield 3 stutter

Hi i've looked and i can't find anything on the forum for this so here goes.

I just upgraded my pc with a i5 2500k 8gigs of corsair vengeance and a gigabyte z68ap-d3 board.

now the problem i am having is the game feels choppy, even though my fps doesn't change from 45fps.
No frame spiking or anything. My graphics card is a Evga 9800gtx+ but i know it can't be the problem,
because before i upgraded bf3 ran at like 30fps but the frames dropped when stuff happened but it was smooth if nothing was going on.

I googled it and they say to stop the stuttering to disable hyper threading or set the games affinity to 1 core.
I think the 2500k doesn't have hyper threading so that is out and on 1 core the game barely runs.

I run the game on low settings with 1920x1080 res same as i did before.

Is there anything i can do or is it just a thing i have to wait for Dice to patch?

People seem to be very helpful today. :|

If this is in the wrong section could an Admin move it?

When you upgraded did you reinstall windows?

Could be a good idea, but I doubt that this is the core of the problem.
Not a bad idea either way though.

Drivers are most likely the issue here though. You can try the epic long journey of trying to get old one's removed and the newer updated one's installed - but truth be told - you probably are better off just doing a clean install of windows.

REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR DOCS, STEAM, ETC!!!

Sounds like the quick fix would to just be a format reinstall.

Else you could try uninstalling / reinstalling drivers etc.

But with a machine like that you deserver to give it a better Gfx card :p

Spartan had a fix for this
Launch BF3, then Alt TAB and Set the CPU Affinity to one single core (This disables Hyperhtreading on the Task)
Then reset to use all cores
It should resolve the issue

I did a clean install when i got the new items.
I'll try that affinity reset thing, thanks.

Time goes to quickly feels like yesterday that i bought the GFX card.

Thanks for the Replys

What antivirus are you using?

Bitdefender 2011 gave me thi sort of lag.. I swopped to ( and lol im actually not lying ) Norton IS 2012 and it fixed my issue.

Then is both the 4 pin powers into the motherboard.

Is your drivers properly installed.

Are you not overloading your power rail,

Drop graphics to low and test it,

Ja i would post extra specs on the machine. Are you running 64bit?

Are you using the latest nvidia driver?

What is your power supply rating? How old is it?

did you reinstall windows after upgrading? (I remember windows used to force this with a cpu change but think they had problems when virtualisation became big)

what i lile to do is create a new partition and install games into it. Means i can do all sorts of gaming optimisations but should also help you to determine if the os is the problem.

-didn't help

Also, did you try setting the Priority to high?
-will try that soon,(just re-installed windows)

You sure it's not simply lag?
-ya I am sure, and wouldn't the frames drop if it were lag?

post extra specs on the machine.
-what else would be helpful

Are you running 64bit?
-Yes

What antivirus are you using?
-Kaspersky 2012 ant

Then is both the 4 pin powers into the motherboard.
-theirs the 4 pin and the atx plugged into the board as normal

Is your drivers properly installed.
-yes i think so

Are you using the latest nvidia driver?
-yes

did you reinstall windows after upgrading?
-Yes

what i lile to do is create a new partition and install games into it.
-I have a 60gig partition for my OS

What is your power supply rating? How old is it?
-Vantec ion 2 600watt model van-600N

Are you not overloading your power rail,
-How do you check?

Drop graphics to low and test it,
-I already run on Low and my frames sit at 45 or so. (render.drawfps 1)

If i run the game in a window the stutter is less. So i suppose its just old Graphics card then?

Pc was Bsoding so i took one chip out and formatted haven't tried bf yet.

ssssssstutter

im also experiencing bad stutter ,
granted , my pc is old and im running all settings on low , everything turned off that i can possibly turn off ..
intel p4 dual core 2.4 ghz cpu,
8 gig ram , 800mhz ddr2,
1 dual core gpu - ati 4870x2 screencard
asus rampage 1 motherboard.

ive tried setting everything to low and playing in a window aswell as setting the game to 1 core and back to both but the stutter remains , probably just my pc not being able to krank out the juice fast enough :(

OK. its really really difficult to find anything on that PSU ?

Lol

The only link i can find was this one and its a bunch of SA okes making us look bad :/

any how if those okes are correct you are running a 2 x rail PSu that i if you have the ion 600+ ,

Now i need the manual to give you better directions but in lame mans terms

your psu runs on 2 rails .

Im going to assume that it is split in half but its not a guarantee.

600W / 2 = 350W per rail.

Now your Motherboard power and all the cables coming out of your PSU is on 1 rail and then the modular cables ( the blocks you can plug the other cables into ) share the 1 rail with the power from your motherboard, Now with your new setup this might be your problem as the board is pulling allot of juice from your PSU.

You need to make sure your GPU is running on a seperate rail.

IF it already is it is just a dated GPU and you should prolly upgrade.

have you dropped your resolution to check ?

Antivirus = kaspersky = Fine you wont have a problem with kaspersky.

Brand new os should eliminate software issues.

And your rail description is shaky

I agree with Darth on this... that rail issue seems contentious at best.

I'm gonna preemptively blame the PSU on this one.

Best way forward would be to try and find someone who has an extra PSU or something to those lines.
Plug in new PSU and test.
The better the PSU for testing, the clearer it should be whether or not it is indeed the problem.

New, good PSU solves problem = your PSU is crap.
New, good PSU produces same problem = something else in that system is wonky.

At that point I would suggest a windows and software reload with latest drivers across the board.
If that still doesn't cut it, I would check into the motherboard. A good motherboard is the backbone of proper cooperation between components.
You could have the best components in the world, but with a shitty motherboard it will perform like a netbook under load...
