Guild Wars 2

Wow, just wow. Mesmer is looking really good, good enough to be my starting class even. Man I want to play this game already... :)

Mesmer+thief combo's will be BAWSE, in other news, did you guys check the sword skins in that video? So so pretty, screw mount collecting, I'm going to collect ALLLLLL the swords!

And it seems that despite the closed beta happening this week - we're still a good couple of months away from a final release *sigh*

More like a closed alpha if you ask me, considering that there's so much left to still implement.

Yep a while still to go. But, I feel alot more relaxed now that I know the last profession, with all those questions being answered, and Closed Beta announced. It is on its way now! Now, hopefully I will read less stuff, until next year when they release info of WvW etc.

Ok, next week new Thief info :p (after that after that!)

With the closed beta starting, I expect the public closed beta to start in like 2 months. I wonder if guildwars2 will have an open beta. Sad that you cannot sign up for beta yet, but it is on its way. Does anyone know how long these developers normally work on their games, beta stage wise.

I hope it isnt like Blizzard, cause then we will be seeing public beta in 2015 :(

There will likely be an open beta. Going by previous NC releases, each phase tends to last about 2 months.

This is ArenaNet's baby though - so dunno if they'll keep to the same timeline. Even if its a closed beta, I have to wonder how close to completion they are though - any kind of beta before a game is very close to complete is pretty pointless imo.

I think the closed beta session will revolve more around the professions and skills.

Getting everything balanced as well as they can for the open beta sessions. They still have quite a bit of content to add to the game and probably some events and stuff. Then there is the rest of the PVP maps, WvWvW stuff, etc.

The open beta will have most of the content in the game if not all of it. It will probably deal with balance issues yet again and bug finding on a large scale. Then stuff will be fixed and balaced and once that is sort of sorted, ArenaNet will have a look at the state of the game and decide on a release date.

Either way if we're lucky, June/July 2012 we'll be able to play. If they decide to take longer let's hope for before the end of the world on 21/12/2012.

What would Anet's motivation be for staging a moon landing? *Cough* I mean non-existant closed beta? It could be that they want us to continue to be strung along by the hype train and ensure we buy the game. It sure would be a waste if the hype engine that's been running for 2 years now crashed and lost the interest it had. We are already seeing players starting to lose interest in the "Big news" they cook up every 3 months. A delay of the game would just mean more lost interest, though when a developer says "Polish", a jaded MMO player should know that is a sneaky way of avoiding the delay word. The same 3 zones being shown over and over at conventions was sort of an indicator.

I've been saying the above for a while now.

While hundreds of replies may agree with the article though, we need to keep in mind that they are operating under the exact same perceptions as the person who wrote the article - in other words, they are operating on vague assumptions. But what the one commenter said below:

I think the company should be more up front with the public about their targets for 2012.

That I agree with. They've been refusing to commit to any kind of timeline since the beginning, and since they claim to be in closed beta (whether true or false) they should at the very least have some kind of tentative timeframe. At this point ArenaNet is doing nothing but hurting their chances - because they're on the edge of losing those people who just had middling interest to start with, which I believe they were trying to get into the game to start with. Right now, it's the hard-core GW junkies and general fans still hanging on, but I think the fans are also starting to look elsewhere for entertainment, be it Tera (no idea why, with it's $30 subs) or any other upcoming MMO.

With regards to the moan about the B2P and cash shop - I couldn't find it - you have a linky for me? I'll read it, but I'll go out on a limb and say it's a pointless argument before actually reading it - because that happened to be GW1's model, and it worked fine. They leaving off subs, and that's already win enough for me. Besides - not like buying a game is an alien notion. And she's probably operating under the assumption that the cash shop will give some form of advantage to people using it - which I doubt will happen.

There is no way if we could ever know if it really started or not, but 100s of replies agrees with the article

But there are only 74 comments :p I reckon this article is link-bait of sorts. No better way than to denounce something lots of people are excited about ;)

This is the article that just tells me that its just an Arenanet hater more so than the other one, for some reason this person seems to think that subs+pay < pay+buy_item.... I think my maths suck sorry, cant figure this out, I just dont get the same answer.

Your response without reading is pretty much 100% accurate of what Im also saying lol :P
'The assumption of advantage' is the most BS thing that gets me so raged about every time I read something remotely close to the subject, that article had 'the assumption' while Arenanet has said in so many articles and interviews and blogs etc before the cash shop articles that everything will be cosmetic. I dont know, article writers that just spew shit just gets me worked up alot... sorry :p
