Ah hell. I'll be starting Skyrim one of these days, and the WORST thing for me when playing an RPG is when you start out and it says pick your class. I always think I'm going to regret my choice later down the line.

In skyrim there is not really a class you play how you want to. If you don't like that go play world of warcraft :p

Ok, so races rather than classes, but different races will be better at some skills than others and have different perks. I just always have massive indecisiveness when I have to pick. You haven't played the game yet so you don't know what will be the best. Very stressful. It's the thing of one choice right at the beginning a game affecting the whole experience.

Maybe it's not such a big deal in Skyrim. I haven't played it yet, so I don't know.

Take Diablo II for example. I played that through with a few different classes, and I found that although say the Necromancer guy was great when there were swarms of small enemies, he struggled with the bosses, and while the paladin wasn't so lekker against the swarms, the bosses went down without him breaking a sweat.

Also, by the sound of Skyrim, it'll take so long to finish with one character, what's the chances of playing it through with a few different characters.

It depends on you how fast you complete the story of skyrim. No side quest 2 hours play, thow a few side quest and you can push the ammount of time you play as long/short as you want to.

Sigh why do you need the BEST just pick the dam class you want to play and have fun.

LOL, Ya it's just a little stressful for me because it seems like a big decision, but once I've made up my mind, I sommer play and have fun. I am a sucker for side quests though

EDIT: It's not necessarily about what's the best, but what will suit me the best, and as such be the most fun to play.

Luckly you can determin that the first few levels before you really get stuck in.

I chose Redguard. The guy looked cool and it said something about being the most naturally gifted warrior race. I like to bash the crap out of everything, so that seemed like a good choice.

Played a Dark Elf Neverine in Morrowind. Naturally had to do it again in Skyrim. Now if only I could leap ten blocks of buildings in one jump again :/

Imperial because I wanted a bit of everything. But then I ended up just shooting people with arrows. Not in the knee, though.
