Mass Effect 3 Thread

Very true... There is only one movie series with more than 5 entries (7... TBH it's 8) that I watched just to see the end of the protagonist's story...

But all that aside Mass effect 3 is a brilliant entry and ending to the trilogy regardless of the controversy.

Will you be getting the ending DLC that they're working on?

I offer up the "Return of the Jedi Hypothesis"
...
Call of Duty is a good example of this, IMO, COD4 is one of the best in the series, 5,6,7,8,9 have all have the trademarks of a diminishing experience.
Must say that I thought that James Bond 21 and James Bond 22 were both excellent, but now I digress :P
I suspect you won't be too excited about ME4, then?

There are always exceptions to the rule, however many would argue that the best films in the James Bond series where Dr No, From Russia With Love & Gold Finger. After that it took a bit of a dive but got back into its own with Diamonds are Forever & Live & Let Die. After which the inevitable decline ensued. Sure Golden Eye was good but Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough & Die Another day all followed the same trend. IMO thats why there was a 4 year gap between Die Another Day & Casino Royal and why Craig's Bond is such a dramatic departure from all those that came before.

ME4 will land eventually, ME made too much money for EA to leave it on the shelve. I am about as Excited about it as I am about Halo 4 which can be described as Cautiously Optimistic.

Alien 1 - Good or Great film depending on who you ask.
Aliens (or Alien 2) - Great film, takes the character of Ripley to a new level becomes the film most remember when the Alien Quadrilogy is mentioned.
Alien 3 - Boring, bad, forgettable.
Alien 4 - Lets not talk about it...
Funny you should mention Alien/Aliens, just (re-)watched those movies last week in prep for Prometheus. Both are great movies but what really makes it special is the fact that you get to see the very different styles of two brilliant directors (Ridley Scott and James Cameron) on the same franchise.

Also I choose to only acknowledge the existence of two Aliens movies since the last two are so shit they aren't even worth talking about. :) So you may have something to your theory.

Careful you won't want my head to get any bigger ;)

"Cautiously Optimistic" - that's such a great way to put it. That's how I am about almost all games these days. Things are more likely to be a let down if you have massive expectations.

...

Except for Diablo 3 - that's gonna be AMAZING!!!1!1!!! XD

Does anyone else feel that ME3 feels a lot "different" to ME1? Regardless of whether it went worse or better (I guess that's personal preference), there is a definite change. Compare that to the Uncharted series: the core formula stayed EXACTLY the same.

Which do you prefer? Stick with the brand and do small refinements/changes, or mix it up?

I have to say that when I played AC:Revelations, it was just too similar to AC:Brotherhood, which, in turn, was too similar to AC2.
So, imho, there needs to be some evolution of the gameplay.

IMHO the gameplay has too evolve, you see what work, what doesn't and where players had issues. Also Uncharted ignoring gameplay issues aside there really isn't much change that can be brought in. They brought in sneak attacks in UC2 and it evolved a bit in UC3. There really isn't more they could do.

ME1, while a good game had some design issues. The combat wasn't all that much fun, character movement felt stiff and the mako missions where boring. Then you had technical issues; huge loadtime, framerate issues and texture pop-ins. Do you really want to be forced to play the same game 3 or 4 times? ME2 improved a lot in ME1 but had its own issues.

So no, I like it when games evolve from installment to installment, as long as it all makes sense in the cannon I can forgive almost any change, almost.

I still have not played ME3, bought it a while back but decided to do the previous 2 first. Still busy with ME2, but I only get about an hour or 2 in every week.

Evolution is great if it makes sense. I tried to play ME 1 again yesterday and I couldn't get much in thanks to the gameplay (this after having played the entire Trilogy). ME 3 really did do a lot for it's combat system. So by all means if evolution makes sense, then it should happen.

I constantly feel like playing this again, but every time I start it up I end up just staring at the title menu, then quitting. I think it's mostly because I don't want to play through the intro again. I just want to jump straight into the action.

It is a little stupid that you have to play through the intro everytime but I guess since its tied pretty deeply into the plot its not really possible to by-pass it.

I have to say, ME3 isnt the same other than story for me, in terms of gameplay that is. I dont personally mind controls evolving from one game to another, but this felt like complete new game to me

Gameplay wise: Yeah it's different, thank goodness they got rid of the Mako/Planet Resource Scanning Missions. Just wish they still had the Hammerhead in it. Just feels like that was when they finally got it right.

Story wise: The lead writer who was responsible for the first game (same guy that brought you Baldur's Gate 2 and SWKOTOR) left after the second game. So the artistic direction can change quite a bit after something like this.

Overall - way different game.
