No worries :) That makes sense.

This is what I'm seeing at the moment and it doesn't look much like a proper downloader (such a lack of information provided). It keeps bombing out at exactly the same spot (around 9854KB):

Yes ... that's the launcher update.

Can you try running it on a Windows 7 system? I'm probably grasping at straws here, but let's eliminate possibilities while we can.

Oh wow. I would have thought that they would give more information such as the total download size or at least a progress bar like they did with GW1.

It's bombing out because of my graphics card so I guess I'll have to wait until my new machine arrives next week and just get downloading then. Hopefully by some stroke of luck it's finished come weekend! It'll be running Windows 7.

Now to figure out how to get my MTN dongle working. Hopefully there's data rollover and I've saved up a good couple of gigs so I can download a chunk of the patch at once before moving over to ADSL.

Otherwise...anyone in Cape Town who works or lives in Green Point who would be willing to share? :D

The launcher update is pretty small - it usually updates in about a minute - there's a progress bar as soon as you download the game client.

[EDIT] Looks to be about 9.6MB total - which is where it gives me a big "Install Guild Wars 2" button. Just tested it on my lappy.

The downloader changes after that screen and gives you a progress bar and how many files left ect.
 
AHA! Thanks so much :D That makes sense.

Just ordered my new PC so here's to hoping it arrives quickly and I can get downloading :) Woop woop.

There was a thread on reddit a couple of days ago, where a person had the same problem with windows8 and contacted gw2 support about it.

The response from them was that windows 8 is not supported as gw2 was never tested on it, and that if you want to run windows8, you should run a dual boot system with windows7, so that when you want to play gw2, you can boot to windows7.

So yea, you'll have to drop the windows8 unfortunately.

Thanks for the info!

My new machine will be running Windows 7 so it shouldn't be an issue :)

Hope they plan on adding Win8 support before Win 8's launch though!
 
Do you think for the final release they will allow a patch for the beta? or a whole new download? because with SWTOR, their last beta weekend, that client could be patched to the final release.

We will be able to download the rest of the client before the final release, basically like an update. We wont download a whole new client.
 
Damn, darn and tarnation, my kids have sunk me :( , mind you, I suppose one cannot blame them, being school only started today. Even if I manage to download the beta by the weekend, I will not have bandwidth to play ...

Any one in Bloem, I can visit with my external HHD, for a copy of GW.DAT?
