A request for being open minded....
Traditionally in MMOs, a guild has always been a banner to hold up, to feel loyal to, an exclusive club in the wider world of the MMO. Guilds have always been a home for like minded individuals and a gathering place of smaller groups to reach a common goal.
Arenanet has attempted a new direction with this MMO social mechanic: they have given people the opportunity to be parts of multiple guilds. The concept is quite alien to many of us, including me, who have been playing in MMOs inside single guilds.
I have been giving this much thought and I have realised that this is a golden opportunity to break tradition, to think of my game time and social groups in an MMO in a very different way.
I am sure many of you are also looking at other aspects of GW2 with the same trepedation, no holy trinity? WTF!
We have to change the way we think of an MMO, GW2 has given us that chance.
I have a request of everyone here:
Please be open minded to those of us who are going to try and embrace the whole multi-guild concept. The temptation is there to start discriminating against people who come and go, representing the guild as they please, representing other guilds on the fly. You might feel like saying: "Traitor!". You might think less of those who are moving among their newly established social groups.
Try not to, give the new social dynamic time to develop.
I appeal to all reading this again: give it a chance, don't slam doors in the faces of those who are going to try and explore this new and shiny aspect of the gaming genre.
