Guild Wars 2

If you created a continuum with Skyrim on the far left at position 1 and Diablo on the far right at position 10, where would Guild Wars fall from a genre perspective? i.e. is Guild Wars closer to Diablo or Skyrim or....is it more like Neverwinter Nights?

I know they're very different games (as someone pointed out on another thread, apples, oranges and bananas), but nevertheless

I enjoy playing Diablo, Skyrim not so much (prefer third person isometric dungeon crawler to first person view). Am I likely to enjoy playing GW2?

It's more like Skyrim than Diablo. There are like four hundred million videos on youtube you could check out to see what it's like.

Since we posting Videos

OMFG IT"S IN SYNC!

***Edit, don't know that the F~ the panda is doing.... WoW got it all wrong...

Without having to dig around in loads of pages, does anyone know what time Saturday the launch will be? Anxious about losing names.

Pre-purchasers will be able to access the game from 8am UK time on Saturday 25 August (or maybe slightly earlir according to the studio), while gamers that pre-ordered Guild Wars 2 will be able access the MMO at 8am, 27 August in the UK.

UK to SA is +1 so SA will launch at 9am Saturday morning. Although servers will start opening from 6am (5am UK time)

They did say the early start was a possibility - so those times are not definite.

That being said I'll be awake at 5am on Saturday anyways, so may as well take a look-see :D

A request for being open minded....

Traditionally in MMOs, a guild has always been a banner to hold up, to feel loyal to, an exclusive club in the wider world of the MMO. Guilds have always been a home for like minded individuals and a gathering place of smaller groups to reach a common goal.

Arenanet has attempted a new direction with this MMO social mechanic: they have given people the opportunity to be parts of multiple guilds. The concept is quite alien to many of us, including me, who have been playing in MMOs inside single guilds.

I have been giving this much thought and I have realised that this is a golden opportunity to break tradition, to think of my game time and social groups in an MMO in a very different way.

I am sure many of you are also looking at other aspects of GW2 with the same trepedation, no holy trinity? WTF!

We have to change the way we think of an MMO, GW2 has given us that chance.

I have a request of everyone here:

Please be open minded to those of us who are going to try and embrace the whole multi-guild concept. The temptation is there to start discriminating against people who come and go, representing the guild as they please, representing other guilds on the fly. You might feel like saying: "Traitor!". You might think less of those who are moving among their newly established social groups.

Try not to, give the new social dynamic time to develop.

I appeal to all reading this again: give it a chance, don't slam doors in the faces of those who are going to try and explore this new and shiny aspect of the gaming genre.

I think I'm going to spend my day looking at GW2 video's and reading up on some stuffs... I have one day to decide if I'm going to pre-order or not...

So stoked for Saturday morning! Going to be up at 6AM hoping Aurora's Glade is one of the first online because it beings with "A" xD

Thanks for the info on headstart, can't wait to redeem my items! :D

I'm using those exact headphones when playing GW2, after some balance tweaking they are absolutely amazing.

After some PM'ing and asking around Reddit.
From what I understand is all the prestige armour + weapons are just skins that overlay on your current items.

Probably going to rent out a Vent, TS3 or Mumble server via Game Servers for our guild. Will start small at 10 or 15 slots and see how everything go's after launch. Some people like a VoIP option others don't.

I hope my accounts are linked. I have nothing to confirm that they are, except that I used the same login/pass for GW1 and the GW2 stress tests.

Not raining on anything your message brings across, but I feel the need to speak out in loyalty of one of the best MMO's ever made.
FFXI had multiple "guilds", and that was 10 years ago...

The weapon in-hand determining the skills available... yup, FFXI also!

Power/Level-scaling... sorry that one goes to FFXI too.

Anyway.
Yes I do agree that most newer entrants into gaming and/or MMO (less than 10 years experience in more than one title), should keep their minds open, and learn to let go of their formerly held beliefs and such.
But they should also learn to do so with ALL other MMO's to what they play, and not just one's they might look at.

What is rotting this industry (MMO) right from the guts outward, is the players' inability to appreciate the good of other products and realize the flaws in their own.

Oh well...

GW2 will likely annoy me in many areas of its design etc. Just like every other game on the planet...
But I'm sure it will be more pleasant on the platter than bad things.
Raise your glasses to a hopeful future in GW2!
