Guild Wars 2

Is GW2 still F2P? I mean you buy it and then its free forever?

Too bad it doesn't have a mac client, else I would jump on board. I'll wait a bit and then pick it up and run it in bootcamp.

Yes it's F2P.
You could borrow someone's GW2 and check? I know they (the devs) tested it in WINE on Ubuntu.

I'm going to ask a bit of a noob question. But what is Guild Wars like? Is the combat like WoW or more like something like Skyrim or the Witcher? I've tried reading up a bit about what type of game it is, but it's just the usual info you'd expect when looking up a game. Try convince me to buy this :) And... is this subscription based? free after buying?

Another noob question :

Anyone know if I can use my existing beta client to update ?

If so, how much cap will I need to go from beta > retail?

Yes you can.
Depends when you last updated :p
I've spent a good 30GB updating for each BWE or Stress test... but if you grabbed it for the last beta and update it now then you should have around 3-4GB max I reckon.

Thanks guys. I downloaded about 13GB in the last BWE. Was the only time that I downloaded the client.

Quick Question: will we get actual retail disks to install from if we pre-ordered from local places like takealot or kalahari? Or will it just be a code and then a month of downloading?

Hoping we at least get something wrt our pre-purchases. Last time I went to ask for my pre-purchase package they said they don't have it yet :wtf:

I have brought this up earlier in the thread, only to get derailed...

Your 1 day and/or 3 day early access means NOTHING with regards to the discs.
Regardless of whether you pre-oredered/purchased in a store or from an online retailer.

You will be sent/sms'd/emailed/given a code.
That code will allow you to activate your account for your pre-order/purchase 1/3-day benefit.
This code will allow you to play until your physical copy arrives, and no later than Thursday, else that account will be suspended.

You will however, NOT receive your physical game (and by extension, permanent CD-key) until Tuesday at the EARLIEST.
That is not a GUESS, it is a fact.
If you have not yet downloaded (or otherwise obtained) the ENTIRE CLIENT, you will have to download/obtain it NOW if you plan to make any use of your early access benefits.

In the case of 3-day early access, the code received is the ONLY thing you will EVER receive. You will NOT get a physical copy of the discs, etc. In this case, downloading/copying is the ONLY way of obtaining the game client.

Otherwise, you will have to wait until Tuesday when you can go collect your discs at the shop you pre-ordered/purchased from, or when the delivery man shows up at your door (in the case of online purchases/orders).
Then, after installing off the retail discs, you can expect a 2-4GB update before being able to play (as someone else already mentioned).

Hope this helps anyone out there, as there seems to be mass-confusion and people believing they get the physical game copy/discs early alongside their early access benefits...

Blah. Referring to those pre-purchase boxes with our cd keys.
A friend of mine bought my game and his game together. He already got his pre-purchase box but a day later they told me they don't have the stuff yet.

If you pre-purchased (got access to all the BWE's Stress tests etc.) you wont be getting a Physical Copy. The CD key you where given was your copy of the game.

Standard Edition (Europe)--Customers will buy the Standard Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive their serial code. This is the only serial code customers will receive and will grant access to the Beta Weekend Events, three-day Headstart Access, the Hero's Band digital item, and full access to the final live game. Customers will not need to return to the retailer to receive another serial code.

I smell a sold-out scenario in which you will only get 1-day early access.
If you have not received your 3-day early access (including Beta access), you should call and get on their heads. Almost too late now, but I guess you could give it a shot tomorrow morning...

To be honest, I doubt you'll get the pre-purchase edition.

BTgames store in Green Acers (PE) sold out in a few hours I walked in at 9am and got it 20 mins later. Manager there still phoned head office and got the Key over the phone and about a week later I got a sms, and picked up my box with the CD key they had given me inside.

THinking about ordering it today! But what will happen to my life! :-)

Wait till you see the sword called "Twilight" it's such a mission to create one, people that where the first to make them in the Core beta test, had characters and places named after them

It's so amazing, it's a paint stroke, that when looked at one can see "galaxy's" inside of it.

BTW since it's a few hours to launch. I was invited to the core test along with 5 or 6 other South Africans, I know 2 of them personally :) I still got the email A-net sent me, to sign up I had to sign and submit a NDA with my ID documents and all!

I wonder if I am able to upload the email...
