Thread of PC Woes, Troubles, Problems, and Issues

Google Chrome browser issue. Running Win7

Video and Audio media has no sound, and auto-stops about every 10 seconds of playback - in which one needs to seek to continue playback.

Audio on PC works perfectly fine. Audio on other browsers perfectly fine.

Have checked / attempted:

*Reinstalling Chrome
*Uninstalling and Reinstalling Adobe Flash Player
*Disabling Flash Plug In for Chrome.
*Chrome reports being up to date.

Chrome refreshed during each step.

Volume Mixer: Chrome arbitrarily appears within Volume mixer even if media is playing in Chrome. When present, is not muted, but shows

So, could anyone provide any assistance?

hi... dude I have the EXACT problem.

If I run it via IE or FF it works 100% .


What AV are you using ? Im on kaspersky .

Also some people suggested to me today I need to make sure my YouTube settings are playing HTML 5 ?

Uninstall java and reinstall it. Also do a reg clean just before launching chrome.

I have been trough Youtube settings and have not seen where you can set it to Play HTML5 so no idea where they got that from.
I know Chrome supports, it should fall back on java if it has problems playing HTML5.

Wow, I'm glad to have found this thread. I desperately need help- Googling it doesn't always work.

Certain folders on my pc close whenever I click on files in them. I get a error message that Windows explorer needs to close and it is very annoying:mad: I can't even watch my old NAG videos because of it:( I desperately need a solution-please help

Witch version of Windows?
Have you done error checking on the HHD that gives the problem with the certain folders.?
Malware and virus scan?

This may sound like an obvious question but are those files normally able to run, ie is it a document, exe, vid or something. On the computer at work I get the same error and shortly afterwards the antivirus picks it up as a trojan and moves it to the chest. Maybe try add it to exception list if you trust the files?
To me it sounds like a corrupt file in windows, have you cleaned the registry as of late and then it started, maybe try rolling back to a previous working condition?

It's XP. I have Mcafee on my pc, but I don't think its a good software. It's mostly with folders that I transferred from somewhere else (like a flash or the NAG DVD).
 
Hey Guys and Gals!!

Got a Steam problem on a buddy's PC which stumps me completely. Steam loads on startup and defaults to his library (working 100% - can initialize games, can download updates, can install new ones). But whenever the "store" page and "community" page is clicked, the windows inside goes blank, the star-"wheel" top right only spins about once around, and.... nothing, stays like that. I sent him a gift via Steam, when he clicks on the 1 gift waiting at messages, a new window pops up, stays blank for about 3-5 minutes and then opens a plain white page with text in plain ol' html (looks like one of the web pages from the dawn of the 'Net). The steam forums has not shed any light on the problem so far that I've gone into it.

The following things i did do:
Restart approximately 20 times.
Delete Steam totally (except steamapps) and re-installed (twice).
Defaulted Internet Explorer options.
Added steam to the windows firewall exceptions (private and public).
Cleared steam html cache.
Tried different servers in steam - CPT, JHB, MWEB-CPT&JHB, ISGAMING, etc

any ideas would be very much appreciated....

Try using a different ISP?
ipconfig /flushdns?

*shrug* Very weird.
 
Hey people I need some advice. Recently I've been getting very low fps in games. I've found out that my cpu idles at 50-80 degrees, and when I run a game it jumps to 90-105. Now as you know if the cpu starts overheating it has to clock down the speed, and when the frequency goes down the cpu functions much slower which in turn bottlenecks the gpu. Now my first question is : should I buy a new cpu cooler and some high-end thermal paste , or upgrade the motherboard, cpu and ram (current setup is almost 2 years old) .

Second question : If I upgrade (current setup : Motherboard - Intel DH55HC, CPU - i5 650, RAM - 4gb 1333mhz) should I go for a AMD setup or Intel? I'm leaning more towards AMD ( thanks to their unlocked cpu's) .

Here are the 2 options I'm going with :
1. Intel

Your System is beginning to age id say a new cooler would sort it out for now till you save for your rig

coolermaster evo 212 plus ectra fan is 100% ( About R350 )


then

get a Asrock Z77 extreme 4 ( R1600 )
I5 3570K ( R2200 odd )
and get any 8GB ( 2x 4 Gb ) DDR 3 1800+ Mhz as a minimum so you leave yourself some room for future overclocking . ( R700 odd )


IT is the best bang for buck setup around.
 
Hey cranky, thanks for the reply. I've sorted out the cooling issue, there was just some thermal paste missing. I've looked at the Asrock Z77, looks pretty good, but how do you think it compares to the Asus maximus 5 gene?
 
My honest opinion is that working on the Asrock it blew my mind. I wrote it off immediately and after helping a friend build his rig this is my Go to board when people ask me to Suggest one.

I personally wont buy Asus again after my Rampage 3 . IF you want to throw 2K around i Suggest you get a Gigabyte Ud3 Z77

The asrock has all the features you need . IF you look at the spec differences the maximus leaves more room for stable over clocking and has a Intel NIC . But other than that the asrock i top notch in performance saving you R800 . That you can use to get a Agility 3 SSD?
 
Ok thanks, the extra SSD would help. But what do I use it for except for the OS and paging? But could you explain to me why you don't recommend the maximus 5 gene? Thanks .
