MyGaming suggestion box

I didn't :S

I was running all 3 sites during the holiday period and things got a bit crazy.

The results from the polls still stand though.

I understand. It definitely would've been nice to read an article though, get the drones to do it (read Jeremy:D)

It's hardly spam. There are probably 6 updates a day on average. We post a variety of content types too, from local politics to scientific advances and developments.

James, I really appreciate what you're trying to do and I realise that your bosses are probably not giving you much choice in the matter, but the content you are posting is rubbish. It's tabloid to the max in there.

What harm will it do to simply create a separate sub-forum for all that 'news?' Are you scared if you do that nobody is going to read it any longer because very few people are even interested in the majority of those 'articles?' The Off Topic forum has always been a bit slow, but it has never mattered much because a lot of people with limited time could notice topics over a span of a few days and respond. Threads in there often got responses months down the line simply because people who don't have the luxury of visiting the site each day could see them, but now in two or three days front-page threads get buried under 'news.'

It appears the forum rules do not apply to admin.

2. Please check current threads before posting a new thread, often your topic has been, or is in the process of being addressed.

8. No spamming (TK will be less strict, but will still be moderated)

- Spam is (1) making multiple topics of the same nature, (2) making multiple topics with no purpose, (3) making multiple short replies back-to-back in a topic, (4) making multiple short replies in several topics (usually with the purpose of running up your post count), and (5) making long posts that repeat the same word, phrase, or smilie with the intent to annoy other users.

Not setting a great example.

So let me explain how websites make money:

- Websites with free content, like MyGaming, generate money by placing adverts
- These adverts are priced based on how many hits it receives, or as a pre-determined price based on previous months' figures
- The more visits, the more money

So, taking the above, I would think that MyGaming is getting more visits to the site and forum from random Google searches to these hot topics, which in turn makes the site's ability to generate profit more.... whether targeting the regulars or not.

For the irate forumites: It means put up with the shit, and you will get more competitions with more and bigger give-aways!
:D

I know how advertising works, I work for an online advertising network myself, that doesn't mean I have to like it :D

We have been keeping an eye on the current affairs feed situation. Posting news to off topic resulted in more activity in that forum section.

I've decided to move the feed to a sub-section to experiment with how well that works. I'm hoping that it will continue the trend of increased traffic.

I'm not convinced on the argument that people miss other topics because I have assessed the activity previously, and you can clearly see that there are often threads a few days old on the first page of off-topic.

I also stickied the popular threads a few weeks ago, and some of those haven't seen activity for days.

James and Admin, besides all the commotion about OP and such, i noticed a notification that some kind soul had "Added to my reputation".
Now i know most forums dont like the + - Comment option, but i do feel that the reputation button is a bit hidden and probably unknown to alot of the forum peeps. Perhaps we could move it or highlight it in such a way that people can see it more easily?

I wasn't even aware of this feature...

Thanks... This works much better. You can even make this sub-forum a main-forum to drive more traffic to it, but at least the news posts aren't mixed with the regular ones.

I was thinking... Why don't you guys start making video reviews? Personally I prefer video reviews over written articles just a thought ;)

We have a plan in the works :)

Too much time, too little reward.

Me thinks I might do that in me spare time "whistling:. How about just just like the previous user reviews idea, some of the willing forum members start a video review thread? It'll probably be a lot of work though:rolleyes:
