Seriously missing a MMO forum

Yeah, got tired of GW2, played SWTOR, now playing DCUO, waiting for something new to come out this year. Probably TESO next.

I'm thinking there's just not enough time to play multiple MMO's as most gamers also want to play other games too.

Same, I am most definitely MonoMMOist, I don't even have time to play SP games at all. GW2 does not have any long term appeal to me, definitely going back to it at some point, just not now.

Yeah GW2 is nice to casually play, I'm also looking forward to ESO; I just hope it's good.

Neverwinter is coming out soon, problem is, it doesn't look like it is very good. LOTRO in Neverwinter setting, pass.

The problem with GW2 is everything is a grind. I've never grinded as much as I have in this game, and it's made worse by the game's anti-grind policies.

The grind is entirely optional though, all the grind is for visual upgrades and not so much for stats (unless you count the minimal stats for ascended gear). But I do agree, because once you have all your exotics all that's left is to get the fancy looking gear which is grind central.

I'm still playing wow, looking for hardcore raiding even lol since my current living patterns can deal with staying up till 1am on weeknights

I'm actually talking specifically about the grind during levels. I'm currently grinding to make money so I can afford new armor and weapons, because I can't continue to level PvE with my current gear.

I never had to grind while leveling and always had enough cash to buy the next gear set. All we did was 100% each area we were in and then move on to the next level appropriately zone and do the same, that way we got a lot of the gear and collectables we needed and we'd just keep buying the karma vendors equipment. It was only at level 80 that I started worrying about getting specific gear for my build.

I've been playing GW2 for 2 months now and I have not yet had to do any grinding of any sort,

I leveled from 1 - 80 on my first character by doing jumping puzzles and exploring all the low level zones, did a bit of my story quest, used a crafting booster I picked up, did a few lower level dungeons when I was about 50/60 and looked again and I was 80.. no grinding at all, never ever felt my gear was lacking once, sure i wasnt the strongest player but I was having fun and that is all my aim was is to have fun and just enjoy playing the game. When I hit 80 I just went to WvW and bought level 80 gear with karma and went and crafted my own set of explorers gear.

My second character is now around level 70 odd, all I have done is a tiny bit of my story for the first few levels, and I do my daily everyday and done some crafting. Havent once had to grind in this game. It is fantastic for just playing casually. So much better than wow in that aspect, in wow I just felt unless I could sink hours a day into the game I was always behind and trying to catch up.

As for gold, when i first started it was a little tough but i just sold everything i picked up. Eventually when my first character hit 80 i was in a lvl80 zone and picked up a rare lvl80 exotic bow which I sold for around 250Gold. so I was sorted on the gold side from there.

Do you buy your armor and weapons from the TP?

You should be able to find suitable gear from karma vendors once you've completed the heart quests in a zone. Currently i'm leveling my warrior and so far i've bought armor once from the TP as i couldn't craft it myself, but since then i've found basically all my gear from heart vendors.

Every now and then i have to buy a new weapon depending on how quickly i'm leveling through certain zones but haven't found it the be a "grind".

Personally the big one I am looking forward to is Wildstar, it looks to be a TON of fun, not a serious MMO at all. My search for an MMO that has continual tactical challenges continues....

I really get tired of the same old skills, used in the same old way, over and over again.

I think there's also a bit of general boredom with MMOs of late. I suppose everyone is just going through the motions with all these games, or rather very few of them have more than a month worth of discussion.

I'm currently playing TERA , since it's free, but even that is same old same old. The combat is fun, although i'd say GW2s combat FEELs more flowing, faster and actiony. Tera does however have the proper combo/tactical thing going (chained attacks/combos and proper evasion, blocking and triggers), but it does feel alot slower . Tera on the other hand, does not hand out all your abilities within the first 10 levels like GW2 (which made GW2 character building quite boring after lvl 40) So Tera combat gets more interesting as you go along. The world, well, it's typical asian, looks like Aion to me. Very colourful and all, but not quite my preference, but their F2P model is very generous with very little annoying restrictions, so i'll fool around a bit more.

Oh and i suppose Tera does not leave much to the imagination with their female characters. Very sexy, and very skimpy clothing. All the weapons are also totally out of proportion, like Final Fantasy. So it's super huge swords and stuff. Luckily it doesn't bother me too much, it does make for very good looking combat. Alot of people complained about the one "race" that looks like little girls in very revealing clothing, i must say, they don't seem to feature as much as i thought. There's like 8 races and most players seem to go for the standard Human/Elven/Elven-with-arse-in-the-air-running-style. So in the end, in the actual game you don't see as much as marketing shows. Kinda like how MMOs have you spend aaaages on customizing your character's FACE (eyes, nose etc), but guess what? You won't see your face most of the game, nor will anyone else care or look at it either...

Had a stint in Rift end of last year, with the expansion, but got bored there too. Again, the Rift universe has never been that interesting (the plot, the story, the characters) so it all comes down to character building. Unfortunately after level 50, there's not that much you can do with your character (that you couldn't have done before).

Also waiting for something fresh, more looking for a "world" again, not so much "dynamic combat" or "super advanced skill system" (although they should at least have something flued going) If the world is not fascinating and compelling i lose interest pretty quickly. Even GW2, amazing graphics, but the world is meh, i never felt compelled to read anything or follow any stories.

I don't expect TESO to be out before like November, likewise with Wildstar. So that leaves maybe Neverwinter? I've always had a thing for the DnD world (forgotten realms and such), so that alone is keeping me fixated on Neverwinter (no matter who is making it). The MMO landscape looks a little dry this year. Usually there's a launch right about now (Feb/Mar), but i find myself in older MMOs.

I might look into DCUO again, i enjoyed those "short stories" they have , and i still love the franchise and the connection to the comic books. Same reason why LOTRO is compelling, just too bad it's a massive grind in that game now.

EDIT: oh and fooling around in Path of Exile too, but it's still in open beta, so i'm not very committed to going very far. Definitely feels like Diablo II , but still lacks alot of polish in terms of the UI. Their shop/inventory interface will drive me nuts fairly soon (i.e. having to drag items into a shop screen one by one to sell vs the "sell all junk" buttons all new games have these days)

I fully agree with Diabolus. Having all your skills given to you early in an MMO kind of removes the need to level and makes the tactical application of those skills rather repetitive. I am enjoying a bit of SWTOR and a bit of DCUO at the moment. SWTOR is still the best "story" telling MMO out there, plus it has some nice group instance technology and interesting skills you acquire as you go along. DCUO is fast and has some nice tactical applications and changes with your skills as you get them but has absolutely 0 community.

The wait continues

So being back in DCUO , what's the best? Going for the sub or buying the DLCs ? I see there's like 3 new powers/DLCs (each costing about $10) . There's a 3 month sub for $30 unlocking everything. I had this dilemma with DDO too, you unlock the stuff because then it's unlocked forever, but then you don't actually play that long.

EDIT: Forgot the sub gives 500sc per month, so yea, looks like it's better to sub. I can at least use the same credits in Planetside 2 as well.
