Eve Online

Hey I could go find my own system. Coool!

What do you think of mah business plan? I dont want to run the universe i just want to make a few bucks while having fun.

Its certainly plausible :)

But it'll take a few months to get started :p In low sec space players have built their own stations, shipyards etc...

One thing I got to give EVE which was a HUGE plus for me:

HAS A SUPER COMMUNITY!

I generally tend to go off MMO's long-term based on their communities. Due to how EVE works it tends to scare off the 12 year old ADD types.

It's a very nice game, just cannot get the time to play that in addition to GW.

My bro has been playing it for a few years now, he is pretty far advanced with his skills training and can build some pretty advanced ships himself now.

In EVE you definitely need to plan and study the game to understand all its ins and outs. It's like a full true world economy, with warfare, economics, mercs, wars, assassinations, spies / infiltrations, etc. Pretty damn sweet.

Eve definitely required patience in order to play. I think it will attract more people when they introduce ambulation (player stations in which you can get out of your ship and walk around). People will feel more like they're playing characters instead of ships.

On another note, it's MMO heaven for the budding economist and the like.

Stoopid Question... How does the actual piloting of the ships work?

It's not manual. You right-click on space and select a destination to warp to, for example, and your ship warps there. You can also set waypoints or a destination and hit the big A for Autopilot and let your ship do even more of the work :) Personally it's one of the things in Eve I found most disappointing and it's why I'll be giving Black Prophecy a try when it's released!

So how does PvP work if you can't control your ships manualy?

PvP is all about strategy...when you activate what module, what modules your enemies use against you, what ship you have and how you use it etc. So whilst you may not manually fire and dodge bullets, there's a lot of room for tactics involved and a lot to control at once.

Lydon is mostly correct, you can move around but it is a click system. You click on an area in space and you will change to that direction.

My views on EVE (and I am still almost a total NooB):

Pro's:
1) Real Time skill training - Takes long as you progress to higher skills but you do NOT have to be logged into EVE
2) As tehNihilist stated - Great community (Mature for the most part as well)
3) Huge Universe - As in, I still get lost months later......

Con's:
1) Steep learning curve - I am still learning the in's and outs
2) Can be time consuming
3) Brutal - low sec aint for sissies, you'll get ganked, jumped, pwned, raped. Deal with it. (Kill it, pod it before it kills you and pods you). You WILL die ... OFTEN!

It takes time to develop a character and more importantly develop relationships / reputations with the community.

I'd say that this is a game that requires months and perhaps years to really get fullfilment out of.

Busy Playing EVE as well, and I'm part of a mining corp, found a really nice group of guys that help me through the game, been playing for about 5months now and I enjoy it cause I can take my time with the game no pressure required.

If you're keen to meet up just let me know and I'll send you details :)

Will clear some space on my harddrive and install it then PM so we can arrange it.

Like i told OC. Once ive gotten into it i would like to create like a merc corp who offer protection for a price. Might take us a while but i think we could make so good money doing that. Let me know if any of you are interested, at some point ill put my plan up for review. Since im still getting to getting into it s a bit early to say.

Good idea. I want to run sex workers to the fringes of the galaxy and I'm gonna need protection. I hope your PMC has no moral code or anything pansy like that. Don't ask why the crates are moving. Just do your job :)

Sex workers hey? Wont that be a bit hard in a game which doesnt have any sort of walking around avatars?

Reading this makes me want to install it again, again and play.

One thing that's not been mentioned and it was possibily two years ago that I last played so forgive me if I'm wrong, but you can't have many alts. I think the max was 3 characters and you can only have one active character at any time, so only one character training a skill at any time.
